Why do sports matter?
Embedded in sports are many useful life skills that help people develop as social beings. In society today, sports play a major role in people’s lives. One may wonder, why it is easier to know what is going on in the sports world as opposed to the local news. Well, sports provide an outlet for human beings. Since the invention of each sport, people have gathered together to watch a game, which as a result has formed a common bond. Someone could be having the worst day possible, but then one may remember that their favorite team is playing tonight and the frown vanishes. Happiness is present all because the thought of sports, unlike the news, where moods can swing in either direction. Sports tend to provide a positive environment.

Major sporting events such as the World Cup and the Olympics unite people from all around the world through a shared interest. Sports bring forth people from diverse cultures and backgrounds and they indirectly force one to work together as a team. Mere exposure to other individuals facilitates the cultivation of deeper interpersonal bonds; this is a result of interaction as teammates. As a team, one is constantly looking out for each other. In the video, “Sports Matter: Baseball,” a young teenager lost a very close relative and showed heartbreak as a result. He didn’t let a loss physically impede his passion for baseball. Rather, the loss enabled him to become a stronger individual. His team was very aware of the situation and, in a brotherly manner, they were by his side through his experience. Because of that, he was able to overcome the agony and create a stronger bond with his teammates. If baseball was absent in his life, he may have never been able to find a way to release the pain associated with losing someone he cared dearly about. Sport’s are an aspect of life that affect societies across the globe. Athletics affect everyone's life, whether that be playing the sport, watching games, or hearing about a sporting event. There is a big difference between playing an individual sport and players relying on their own athletic abilities versus a team sport when members of the team rely on their teammates to complete each individual's specific responsibility to reach the team's goal. People who emotionally get affected by sports should not change them or their everyday life just because their favorite team lost. They tend to have their feelings shape their lives in a way that makes them not to control themselves because they been entertained and wanting their team to win so bad. Also, sports are essential for kids; which means that an adult should act morally or express their emotions in a way that kids understand it and learns from it. However, sports can also show some of the life’s most meaningful teachings especially for the children who play in games, because it can teach them about leadership, how to be in a team, self-control, and sports can also keep the children out of any trouble. The time the kids spent in playing games can manage their free time and teaches them how to be disciplined or work in a teamwork and to be socialized as well.
