It used to be a time where animals were loved and well cared for. Nowadays the problem of stray dogs is serious issue. One can see it everywhere in the Baton Rouge area. According to the Louisiana SPCA, “locally there estimated two hundred seventy five thousand unwanted and homeless animals of which approximately twenty percent are stray” (SPCA). Some of them were dropped off by people; others were born and grew up in the streets. The growing numbers of stray dogs in Baton Rouge instilled a natural fear in people, who are ready to give the green light on any and all steps to be taken by authorities through the restriction of stray dogs’ number. Sterilization is basically spaying of females and surgical castration of male dogs so that they …show more content…
There is a process to get this mobile clinic up and running. A plan must be put together on where the funds will come from, who is going to run the clinic, where is the truck coming from, and where the surgical supplies are coming from. Once the blueprints and plans have been drawn up, the initial process can start. Also, certain goals have to be set to whether how long the clinic will be on the road, how many weeks out of the year it will operate, and how many surgeries will be done per day. To get the funds for the start- up grants have to be applied for. There are a lot of grants out there to help with all your needs in wanting to start a clinic on wheels, but one of the well-known charities is Petsmart. One can apply for these grants through the Petsmart charities website. There you will get the funding for all your needs from the medical supplies to the cages needed to house the pets after they have had their surgery. Then one will need to get a truck or bus that is big enough to be able to operate on several animals at a time and then still have the adequate space for cages so that the animals can recover. One then need to look into hiring trained professionals to staff the clinic. Three veterinarians to work on a part time schedule and the schedules and workdays should vary, two registered veterinary technicians, two drivers to alternate routes and vet assistant to also word part time. One of the benefits of having a mobile spay and neuter
The mistreatment of animals is a serious problem within our society for a variety of reasons. While current laws and conditions are improving, there is still a
Pet owner’s need to be aware of the responsibility it is to be a proper pet owner. Domestic animal do not only need their love and attention they require regular visit to the veterinarians where they can take proper precautions for unwanted pregnancies. Every day there are 70,000 puppies and cats that are born there is not enough homes for all these pets.(Harvey,Alyssa) Animal shelters have endorsed sterilization ensuring pet owners that sterilizing a pet is less expensive than the cost of a litter of puppies or kittens. In Hidalgo County I found a clinic that has received a $90,000 grant from PetSmart Charities to spay/neuter to help reduce pet overpopulation. The program offers
In the United States, about 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters every year. The overpopulation of these animals and the fact that they have no homes leads to about 40% of them being euthanized (ASPCA). This is a global issue, but the root of it can be found within the local community at The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley.
Many American households own a pet, but their pets may have originated from a cruel background. Especially dogs, for many of them stem from one of the ten thousand puppy mills located across the United States. Puppy mills are large commercial breeding facilities that specializes in maximizing profit over the welfare and conditions of the animals. Animals live in unsustainable conditions which they are provided with the minimum amount of food, water, exercise, shelter, protection, and veterinary care; yet, these animals are forced to continue breeding for the sake of providing beautiful pets for our own personal expenses. The government should step in to advance regulations and inspections of large commercial breeding facilities because old rules no longer fit the current time anymore. For us to take home a new healthy family member, we should all know it comes from a safe place.
The domestic dog has to be one of the most unique animals that the human had ever bred. All dogs were formed differently and for separate reasons; whether it be for their looks or for their personal attributes, the dog has been evolved around humans and yet many breeds were created by humans themselves. I also believe that having a dog is a necessity to having a balanced life, just how Cesar Millan was quoted on the Brainy Quote web page “The dog can only become what's in your bubble. The dog is imitating the energy that is in your bubble. You are the source, the feast of energy. If you feel anxious, the dog becomes anxious with you. If you become nervous, the dog wakes up nervous with you”. Your dog runs off of your actions and emotions
There are an estimated 10,000 puppy mills in the United States alone (HSUS), and a single puppy mill can house anywhere from ten to one thousand breeding dogs (ASPCA). Puppy mills are unethical by design - they are designed to produce puppies as fast as possible without concern for either the pups or the mother. The conditions in puppy mills are often deplorable. In the case of the puppy mill that was raided, pups were separated from their mothers at incredibly young ages, the rooms were filthy, and the breeding dogs and pups alike suffered from diseases and malformations (Solotaroff). As stated in both Solotaroff and the ASPCA’s articles, in many puppy mills, dogs are housed in tiny, cheap cages, are unable to interact with anyone, and are generally neglected. Female dogs can be bred indefinitely,
The statistics are outrageous when it comes to the number of abandoned and neglected animals that are homeless or have to live out their lives in shelters all because owners take it upon themselves not to have their furry friends operated on. An estimated 11,000 pets in this country are euthanized daily, according to a Pet Smart Charities study—that’s half of the 8 million pets that land in shelters each year. Not all of these pets start out homeless. Half of U.S. pet owners who’ve had a pregnant dog or cat say the pregnancy happened “by accident,” according to statistics from the study (NAPS). This is only the number of unwanted animals that are actually caught; let us not forget about the feral animals on the street.
Each year, 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in America. Too many people are breeding their pets for a quick buck, but not realizing the effect that their actions play in the animal world. As breeders and puppy mills are mass producing purebred puppies/kittens for thousands of dollars, there sits an abandoned dog/cat in a shelter who costs much less. This drastic number of euthanized animals could be reduced if Americans spay/neuter their pets and consider rescue shelters over a high-end breeder.
If a survey, about what domesticated animal is good for future pet owners, was conducted today, I can bet that most pet owners would say that they prefer domesticated dogs as a pet. Dogs have been man’s best friend since the dawn of homosapiens, approxitmately 15,000 years ago. If humans and dogs have overtime created this bond, then how was that connection created and how strong is it? In Melissa Chan’s article “The Mysterious History Behind Humanity’s Love for Dogs” from the August 25, 2016 issue of TIME Magazine, she successfully implements the rhetoric of logos, and pathos throughout her article to solve the mystery of the bond between humans and dogs.
4. Google "minimal effort veterinary" or "ease pet", trailed by the name of your city or town and see what comes up. For instance, Mobile Pet Care Clinic of Texas, an organization situated in San Antonio, TX, has its own site with the date, time, and area of every facility it
Millions of dogs are subject to the adoption systems around the world each year, and each year around 60% of those dogs do not leave alive (Mahon-Gibbons, Weiss, Garrison & Allison, 2014). Furthermore, the overwhelming majority of dog shelters can be shown preferring the quantity of life at the shelter over the quality of life (Turner, Berry, & Macdonald, 2012). This can lead to an influx of homeless dogs and can cause euthanization rates to rise even higher. Luckily though, programs like RandAgiamo in Italy can help homeless dogs by giving them safer spaces to reside and live with lower risk of diseases and infection (Mechetti, Mancini, Catalani, Boccini & Diverio, 2015). Studies have also shown that the introduction of a dog in a household, given the right circumstances, can reduce stress and calm anxiety (Wright, Hall, Hames, Hardiman, Mills, 2015).
Currently, an animal is euthanized for about $65 (Kortis, 2007). When you multiply this figure by the thousands of animals being euthanized, it will quickly total up to huge reductions in cost for the publicly funded animal control agencies. The clinic offers cost-effective services and carry out high volume surgical techniques. The clinic also offers the homeless animals for adoption, provided the interested parties meet the requirements set by the
Workers have also become depressed and some even turn to drug and alcohol abuse from the distressing result of doing euthanasia to dogs. After analyzing this article it important to let society know the decisions they make to euthanize their dogs does not just affect them and the dog but also the workers who have to execute it. Euthanize should not be the first choice when it comes to overcrowded in kennels or how likely the dog is to get adopted; it should not determine if the dog should live or
What? You don't think the history of dogs is interesting. You would not like to live on earth about 35,000 years ago. Large sheets of ice covered much of Europe, Asia, and the Americas. People lived in caves or in huts made up of animal's bones. They hunted reindeer using stones and sticks. Danger was found everywhere you went, and diseases with no cures, saber toothed tigers with 11 inch fangs elephant-like mastodons with tusks as long as shaped as swords. Keep in mind that this was only during the horrific times known as the Ice Age- that was how the relationship between dogs and humans has changed over time because of the altar of dogs to get along with humans.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are more than 200 million stray dogs worldwide. This is a big problem that every day increase and where do the stray dogs come from? Basically there are three groups. The first one those who were abandoned by owners. The second group are those who are lost, and the last one those who were born in the street. Stray dogs can cause a lot of problem to us and for themselves.
