Don’t you just love that feeling when you open the door to your comfortable home after a long day of school? When you finally have some time to relax and take a nap, go outside and shoot some hoops? Or even if you’re really up to it, finish your homework early to be able to watch a movie with your family? These are things you will miss out on if 1 ½ hours of school are added each day. I disagree with this suggestion because there will be less time to finish homework, no time for after school/ extra curricular activities and certainly less time to sleep.
The first reason why the school board should not go along with this suggestion is because students will have even less time to finish up homework, which usually takes 1 ½-3 hours per night. Adding 1 ½ hours of school will certainly not help the situation. For example, let’s say with the school hours added, you get home about 4:45. You take a 30 minute nap to regain some energy. You then decide to eat some leftovers from the fridge to keep you satisfied until dinner. After you’ve finished, you start working on your homework, by this time it’s 5:30. You finally finish your homework at 8:00. Finishing your homework at 8:00 is pretty late. If you want to get a good night's sleep, you should be in bed by 9:30 the latest. I don’t think that’s a fun routine to go through everyday. There will also be times when you have projects to work on, which

If we use the same example as before, where can students fit an hour of soccer? Chess club Meetup? Even a run around the block? This also fits in with music. When will students have time to practice instruments? There’s barely enough time to finish homework. For a lot of students, sports and clubs are their chance to be creative and free. When school hours are added, there isn’t time to spend doing what they
Some people say that extending school hour's is a bad thing for multiple reason's.I strongly disagree because their are many benefit's to extending school hour's to start at a later time. For example, if state's moved schools hour's to a later time their would be increased performance and reduced absences. There would also be a reduced number of student's falling asleep in class's and much more.
Reason one it would give kids more time to sleep so they won’t be tried all the time. Also it gives them enough time to do unfinished school work. “She expects her life will just shift one hour later — from after-school activities to dinner to homework and bed.” On the other hand though it will probably affect people's grades. Then again kids may not take the school serious enough. We need to understand that this whole staying up late is bad for our health.
If an hour and half of school were added every day, students would miss after school activities. Students will miss the fun extracurricular activities. and students won’t get the exercise they need.
It is evident that the state should extend many school's starting time , and even consider year round school . Others may disagree and think that schools should remain the same time and not change but i feel diffrent . The first reason why I feel like the state should extend school times back by atleast 30-40 minutes is because it will actually help them stay focused in class by giving them more time to to get them selfs ready to learn at school and the time can let them sleep for at least 10-15 minutes longer. Many teachers and staff are noticing that students sleep in class most of the time and the average high school student is recommended with at least 8.5-9.25 hours of sleep on school nights as stated in the text . In order for them to
Schools all around the nation have starting times for school, that are too early for the students and teachers alike. Schools starting times should be 8:30 in the morning or later, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Sleep loss has become more common in children due to early start times which only gives them 6-7 hours of sleep a night when growing children should have 8-9 hours a night. children suffer the chronic loss of sleep due to the hormonal roller coaster that you call puberty, which only lets them begin to go into a REM sleep around 10 p.m. . It’s also been proven that adolescent children suffer from highers risks of physical health problems, mental health problems, lower test scores, missing school, substance abuse, and being in a car crash due to sleep deprivation. Students end up having to get up before 6:30 to get ready and catch the bus or walk to school, but when you have to study for hours after school, eat, clean up, participate in extracurricular activities, including sports and clubs, and do chores in less than 4 hours to get the sleep they require to be healthy mentally and physically it’s almost impossible. School should start later to better our future generations, with more sleep we could have more positive members of societies.
Schools should adjust the times that they start in the mornings so kids get the amount of rest they need. Why is a kid’s sleep important? Well, in the fourth paragraph of Alice Park’s article she talks about how a baby needs 18 hours of sleep, school children need around 10 ½ hours and, adult’s need 8. Sleep Foundation Survey found that kids only get about the same hours of sleep as adults (7-8 hours) which are something that they can never get back even on the weekends. If schools were to start later, that would give kids the opportunity to do what they need to do and get in bed on time to have the right amount of sleep. Sleep in people’s lives (especially children) is important because not enough rest tends to make kids “grouchy, tired, make them have a lack of coordination,
As a senior in high school, I go to school from 8am to 3 p.m. every weekday, then go to work from 4p.m. to 9 or 10 p.m. most nights. Then I’m expected to come home and do two to three hours of homework and get enough sleep to to do it all over again? With school pushed back an hour or more, it would provide more sleep time and allow more time to do homework before school.
As we all know education is a very important thing among all children in America, it's understandable why a child must meet so many hours of schooling in a year. I believe to make children want to actually go to school we should make starting time ten every morning, and let out at four. That's still seven hours of schooling each day for five days a week. It is proven that our brains work more properly with more sleep. Children dread school because waking up at six or five is very
Obviously none of this benefits learning, the purpose of school. Another common gripe among those who do not believe rolling back school at least an hour or two would be more beneficial than harmful state the lowering of time to do things such as sports and work, to which i retort that not only would allowing for more sleep render players more attentive, it also may allow the employee to do a more effective job. An argument against school i do not really understand but is one i have seen is that rolling back school would raise costs for the district itself for things like paying teachers. But if the hours of school are the same, just shifted later in the day, would that not cost the same amount of
I strongly agree that schools should start an hour later than they do now. Almost everyone in our school agrees that more sleep would help them do better in morning classes. I have never heard of anyone not wanting to get more sleep at nighttime. As teenagers our body needs more sleep than were normally getting. “The average teen is chronically sleep deprived and suffering from some of the same symptoms as adults with serious sleep disorders.” Without the necessary sleep that we need it can cause health problems and be much harder to concentrate in class. This alone should be enough to push back the start time of schools by an hour. Another reason to start school later is, because when you’re tired you have a higher chance of getting in a
Seems like a fantastic idea, right? Then why are schools so hesitant towards this move? It is because of many reasons. One of those reasons is the fact that sports and other activities that students participate in are usually after school. If school were to start later, than the activities would go on later in the day. This would make it difficult for students to participate and still have enough time to study, finish homework, participate in social activities, get to work on time and still get to bed at a decent hour. There are a few people that would tell you that those actives could always happen in the morning instead of at night. This makes it the persons’ chose to partake in other activities over sleep. Another problem with schools starting later is a transportation issue. Some schools use the same buses for both the middle school and highschool students and later go back and pick up the elementary students. Considering that most schools don’t have the money to purchase more buses it could just be impossible for them to have school start earlier. My idea for a solution is to let our schools have more money so that they can purchase more buses and help our teens and kids get the right amount of sleep in the mornings. Image result for school
Everyone has wanted to have more time after school for homework and other things that you like to do? Well i think that school days should be shorter and mostly everyone agrees. Students would have more time for homework and other activities after school. Teachers would also have spare time to grade papers and come up with new assignments.
The time frame of the new school change would be 9 week quarters, 3 classes per quarter and a three hour core class in the morning. We already have a way to early of a time to start school for kids. It is a proven scientific statistic that kids’ brains do not start functioning and are ready to learn until ten a.m atleast. Sitting in one class right in the morning for three hours is not going to help that cause either. Sitting and focusing for three hours
Here is my proposal. If we were to start school at nine, thus getting two hours of extra sleep, we would feel more awake and alive during the school day. Dr. John Deew of the University of Delaware says, “It is proven that one
If i had to choose whether we get extended time between classes it would be a no. Because the school days would be longer and it would be more of a mess than it already is, the hallways would be more crowded, and it would make it harder for us to get into our lockers.
