Growing up I would see police cars drive pass my house almost every single day. Seeing the police officers in action sparked my interest in criminal justice, especially the Forensic Science aspect. I remember the day I began to do research into the field I Immediately fell in love with everything they did. From collecting evidence left at crime scenes to performing scientific analysis in laboratories. Ever since that day my goal has been to become a Forensic Science Technician. When I got to high school I applied for a criminal justice tech program that would allow me to learn more about the field. That class soon became my favorite I loved everything about it. Well after graduating high school, I needed a bachelor’s degree in either biology or chemistry. I chose chemistry and then mastered with a degree in forensic science. After that, I went to a lab for on-the-job training by helping seasoned DNA Analysts. Once that was over, I was ready to work on cases by myself!

The career field of forensics is a very diverse and broad field to get into too. Studying criminal justice doesn’t mean one is going to be a police officer, criminal justice can branch into many other specialized jobs. In my case, I would like to minor in criminal justice, then branch off and get a bachelors degree in psychology and become a forensic psychologist. I would like to work with the behavioral analysis unit and work with the FBI.

A career as a forensic analyst requires an undergraduate degree in mathematics, chemistry, biology, or a related natural science field. After doing all of that you can also apply for crime lab jobs & you can qualify for a MSFS degree. It will help you to become easily chosen for harder crimes and problems to solve in the forensic fields. You can also advance to even becoming a detective, a D.I or a crime scene photographer. Taking multiple math courses is a requirement in forensic pathology.

It hasn’t been long that I’ve been interested in forensics, but ever since I learned about it, I have been very intrigued. After I got into forensics, I knew very well what would be my plan B if studying medicine wasn’t for me. I’d choose to be an FBI agent and do investigative work, and pursue a career in the study of forensics. Moreover, if I do go after a medical career, I could apply my interest of forensics and become a forensic pathologist.

In high school, I have already taken online classes in forensic science, sociology, law and you, and criminology. What I have learned in each of these classes I am even more sure that this is the degree I want to pursue and I can't wait to head to college and start this journey. I remember coming home after school and turning right to Channel 47, sometimes my dad would let me stay up late to finish an episode of Criminal Minds. Choosing to become a forensic science student wasn’t a random decision. In fact, my choice to become a forensic science student was shaped by different circumstance. In general, my interests, and abilities have shaped my attention which made me reject other alternatives in order to reach my goal.

Although I’ve dabbled in several subjects, I feel as if I belong in the field of science. I always have been fascinated by science and the role it plays in criminal justice; however, I haven’t had the resources to follow this path until this year. This past year, my school began offering other science classes such as genetics, human anatomy and physiology, and forensic science, all of which I immediately enrolled in. My teachers have inspired me to follow my dreams of going into the science field, and pursue a career in forensic science.

Forensic Science is one of the most important aspects of Criminal Justice, which is why it is an excellent career to go into. It has great benefits, and the job growth has been rapidly going up. There are many opportunities that this job has like working with Law Enforcement and FBI agents by trying to solve crimes. There are many forensic scientists that you can make a career out of, but they all mostly require the same thing. Advances in scientific technology in examining crime scenes have turned forensic science into a high demand and rapidly growing career field. Training needed for new employees with a bachelor's degree; they occasionally work 40 hours a week with good pay.
