Why I Chose Forensic Science

¨Mr. Green committed murder in the pub with a bottle¨. If you like to solve mysteries, then you might find this sentence familiar. I always liked to play the game Clue because I get to solve mysteries. I want to be able to use my talent of solving mysteries in a career, and becoming a forensic scientist seems to be the perfect choice. After researching important information , such as the work environment skills required, the level of education needed, the salary and job outlook, I find myself to be highly qualified for an upcoming career in forensic science.

My reasons for transferring are entirely academic. I have made many good friends at Rutgers, and I have studied with some wonderful professors. However, I am eager to gain a sophisticated understanding of Mathematics as well as Computer Science. An institution excellent in both Math and CS would be a better choice for me.

I would like to be a Forensic Science Technician, simply because I find this kind of stuff interesting. A Forensic Science Technician does many things. Four things they do are run ballistics tests on guns to find the one used in a bank robbery; collect evidence from a crime scene to help understand the chain of events; match DNA samples to reunite a long lost child to his/her family; and solve a crime by matching fingerprints at the crime scene to a suspect. One of the top reasons I would join this career is because I want to be able to solve a crime if someone needs help. Choosing a career that you will have for the rest of your life is a challenge. But if you go for something you, love you will find happiness. In order to become anything in life there are levels of schooling and training you must go through. Which this paper is going to help give a better understanding of the career I am working towards. Along with informing of equity issues, steps towards achieving this career, and many more important factors.

My dream is to become a Forensic Anthropologist. Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved reading books about the human body. This naturally lead me to watch the TV show Bones when I got older, and I realized the difference that Dr. Temperance Brennan was making in people, both living and dead, and I wanted to be able to be a voice for those who no longer have one. Since I can remember I always wanted to work in the medical field. I started of wanting to become a Pediatrician, sort after that I wanted to become a Neurosurgeon, then a Forensic Anthropologist which then sparked my interest in Forensic Pathology soon after. After the idea of becoming a Forensic Pathologist circled my mind I couldn't stop questioning myself what steps I had to take in order to follow this career path. That's when I found out that I had to attend Medical School in order to follow this career. There are so many paths you can take in order to go to Medical School, for instance you can major in Pre-Med, Biomedical, Biology, Physics, Forensic Science, and so on. The main job of a forensic investigator, or a crime scene investigator, is to go out to death scenes to collect evidence. They also conduct interviews, study crime scenes, and then analyze the evidence back at the crime lab. Forensic investigators must work with high-technology equipment and forensic scientists in order to solve cases. Forensic investigators must have a true passion for their jobs because they can encounter some pretty gruesome crimes while on the job. It can be hard for some people to live with seeing these things everyday, so they must have a lot of fortitude.

Forensic science is the use of scientific knowledge and technology to help solve criminal investigations, and provide evidence that is used in a trial. Any person who helps a lawyer or any kind of law enforcement by testing physical evidence is known as a forensic scientist (Frith 4). Forensic scientist can also be known as forensic science technicians, crime lab analyst, or other titles that may reflect a specific area (Echaore-McDavid and McDavid 28). People who are forensic scientists deal with gruesome scenes on a daily basis, and are at a higher risk of depression than most. Most people in this field love the thrill of solving crimes and catching criminals.

The show “NCIS” has increased in popularity over the years and has become the most-watched and popular crime show that currently is on television. NCIS stands for Naval Criminal Investigative Service. These teams focus and work on crimes that are related to the Navy or Marine Corps regardless of the crime’s nature. The show follows a fictional Naval Criminal Investigative Service Major Case Response Team based in Washington, D.C. This specific team is underneath the leadership of Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Solving a case is no easy feat and every case requires the whole entire team. Gibb’s team includes three field agents, a medical examiner, and a forensic scientist. The purpose of this paper is to delve into any episode and critique the different aspects of the case. I will be comparing the field and the forensic scientist’s work to real-life. In most cases, these particular shows dramatized real-life so I will also explain how things would normally be done.

I am transferring for a variety of reasons. The most important reason is that I'm not happy where I am at right now. College is talked about as a place where you'll have to work hard, but also as a place where you'll have fun and experience new things and find out who you are. Yes, I've worked hard and yes, I've explored new things, but I'm not enjoying myself like I thought, I'm not happy where I am. The school I now attend doesn't offer me the opportunities that it promised me and the ones I am seeking. It is small and lacks ... Transferring is the best decision for me because I know that where I stand now I am not fulfilling my potential and I know that there is more out there for me to accomplish. The first job that popped into my mind when this assignment was assigned was a trial lawyer. Seeking justice in this crazy thing we call life seems like a very important job, and I would enjoy a job with such importance. I have always been a person that would go out of my way to help those in need, so being a trial lawyer would be the perfect fit. I would defend those who have been neglected by someone or something. I would provide a balance between the law and the citizens.

I chose to discuss a wide range of careers for my project. I researched from medical to musical to find what I think are the five most interesting careers on the market today. I chose to write about Forensic Pathology, Embalming, Symphonic Music, ASL Interpretation, and Deaf Education. Heres a brief overview of each career's scope, requirements, benefit packages, the best schools for the subject and those school's requirements.

Forensic Science refers to the application of environment, a forensic Technician specializes in the natural, physical and some of the social science of the investigation of the crime. Forensic science has the medical, laboratory and the field services that we need to gather information. Collecting, preserving and examining and analyzing evidence for court is a huge part of the forensic technician. For example in the laboratory the forensic technician will do a variety of things like, Identify and classify crime scene evidence through scientific analysis, explore possible links between suspects and criminal activity using the results of chemical and physical analyses, consult with experts in related or specialized fields, such as toxicology,

The career field of forensics is a very diverse and broad field to get into too. Studying criminal justice doesn’t mean one is going to be a police officer, criminal justice can branch into many other specialized jobs. In my case, I would like to minor in criminal justice, then branch off and get a bachelors degree in psychology and become a forensic psychologist. I would like to work with the behavioral analysis unit and work with the FBI.

Forensic science is the course I would like to pursue, as it provides an understanding of investigations and analysis. My ambition is to become a professional and specialist in forensic investigations, to retrieve, analyse, and classify physical evidence provided from the crime scene. This includes association with science and assistance in solving crimes and investigations. Forensic science will give me a recognised qualification, understanding and knowledge to help me achieve this. I would like to take the responsibility in examining evidence, keeping records for example genetic information from the evidence provided (analysing of DNA).
