“Why I want to attend college” I want to go to college so I can learn and be prepared for the real world. College is a place where I can get a fresh start. I can be a better person by how I matured in high school and becoming the man I am. I can break out and be who I want to be because of some peer pressure I had in high school. I want to meet people that will be my friends for a long time. My Mom had a college friend over this weekend and they shared some stories with me and I want to be able to tell my kids stories with my best friend. College education will give me the opportunity to pursue and learn something that I love. College gives me the chance to have my own responsibilities. I want to show my parents that they raised a smart
The answer to this question is challenging to me because having two diplomas in higher education quite challenging to answer “Why do you want to go to college?” Trying to apply this question to the UoPeople and paraphrasing it as “Why do you want to go to the UoPeople,” I meet another issue. I have already responded to this question in the Discussion Forum.
Media surrounds us, from the graphic design on our morning cellophane coffee cups, to the carefully designed spreads in the magazines we religiously read. The world of Media and Film is beautifully complex, and something which I strongly want to be involved with. I have always immersed myself in the world of Media, and have only ever felt truly satisfied when I’ve been involved in broadening my knowledge and understanding of the industry.
I dream of becoming the first person in my family to graduate from college and making my family proud. I dream of seeing myself as someone who loves their job as well as someone who is knowledgeable in their field. I want to be someone who people look to for help or advice when it comes to College or the field of Forensic Sciences.
This year leading up to my first quarter at college has been filled with so much information, change, and learning. I believe the ultimate goal of going to college is to set yourself up for a bright future. Thanks to all the amazing seminars, presentations, and learning opportunities the Women Leader Forum provided to the Youth Women Leaders I believe I am on the right track. Thank you for allowing us to listen to such inspiring and successful women. As if that wasn't enough, you allowed us to learn firsthand from professional women leaders with a career that interests us. I was very fortunate to be given a mentor that was so willing to teach me and who worked in an office with other successful women who also served as mentors. Thank you for
The reason I want to go to college is because it would be the final obstacle between me and my goals. In my family going to college is an extreme challenge due to the financial problems and the hard work it takes to make it. For me to actually go to college and to finish would mean that a “Thompson” from my family has succeeded in something other than failing. Going to college would me that I would be the very first “Thompson” to finish school and start a career for his/her self.
College has always been in my plan to success even before I knew what I wanted to be. My parents pushed me to do my best in school and attend a college with high standards. Neither of my parents attended college, but my father enrolled in a certification program to become a mechanic. My father enjoyed his job, but my mother felt as if she could have accomplished more if she furthered her education. Every time the topics of schools erupt so does my mother, emphasizing my education and the importance of college. She talks about how times change and it’s a “dog eat dog” world now, and I believe her. Saying jobs have changed over time is an understatement. Back then a select few would get the job they wanted, while the rest made a career out of
While I have been raised in an environment where all the resources I needed to attend college were available to me, I believe my greatest accomplishment is being accepted into a California University and doing well. After graduating high school, my parents informed me that they would not be able to afford a four year university, and that I would have to attend Junior College first. I was completely devastated. All of my peers were attending four year colleges right out of high school, and I was left behind. I developed an extreme depression that I didn't think I would be able to escape from. I realized though, that if I worked hard enough and did well, I would be attending a University in no time. I pushed through my depression, worked hard
I started going to college when I was just 15 years old. Morehouse College accepted me under a special wartime program. They wanted to increase their enrollments so they admitted kids in highschool that looked like they would succeed later on in life. But before I went to college I spent a summer in Connecticut. There I worked on a tobacco farm. While I was there I was very surprised about how black and white people got to do the same things. They went to church together and blacks could eat anywhere. It felt really great, and it just made my hatred for segregation grow more.
I have always known I wanted to pursue dance as a career. I do not know if that means opening a dance studio, working professionally or just bettering myself through performing and teaching. All I do know is dance is the best path I know towards the more interesting things life has to offer. I hear a lot of people telling me I will not be able to do it or saying it will be too hard, but that does not deter me. I personally believe at Indiana University, I will be able to thrive. I want to go to college to learn, to meet people, and have an experience I could not get elsewhere. Indiana is that place for me. The sense of community and loyalty I have seen. personally, in Indiana’s alumni astounds me. Indiana has a reputation of being a phenomenal
University of Arizona would be my first choice for college. The reasons why I want to go to University of Arizona is because it’s close to home, I would receive in state tuition, and most likely would receive a scholarship. I enjoy the towns’ environment that surrounds University of Arizona. I also am interested in medicine and their medical school is excellent. My brother currently goes to University of Arizona and he is fond of the school. If I attend U of A, my brother will help me get used to Tucson and college life in general. My dad will help me pay for college for all four years. I will chip in and help him by getting a job in college, applying for scholarships, and student loans or grants. I haven’t decided if I want apply for student
As a lover of basketball from a young age, what originally attracted me to Syracuse was it’s standings in college basketball. As college began to approach I decided to look into the school which holds my favorite college basketball team. While exploring Syracuse I realized that the university has qualities that I look for as I embark on my undergraduate years as a young adult.
Life is a precious gift that most people take for granted. From the very first breathe, a person is made to leave an impact on their family and friends. I have had the wonderful opportunity of interning at the Ashtabula County Medical Center. The experiences I underwent through the program opened my eyes to the world around me, and made me realize that I wanted to help others by becoming a doctor. With the price of college increasing at a rapid rate, it is making college harder and harder for students, like me, to afford. My family has been responsible and saved up money for me to go to college but that is an insignificant part to the whole. With our financial status we are not awarded financial aid and are forced to take out enormous loans
Ever since my freshman year of high school, people have been asking me what I want to do with my life after graduation. I was fourteen years old when I was first asked that question. At the time I did not have a clue about what I wanted to become or where I wanted to go to college. In all honesty, for a while I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to go to college! But then God caused me to hit a wall, and made realize that I needed to get a degree for what I ended up wanting to do. It wasn’t until my junior year that I began thinking about my future seriously, and started to feel a calling. That was when I discovered my love for chemistry, and decided to pursue a job in that area. Now I can say that I actually have a plan, but I also recognize
I have always wanted to go to college and my parents would always tell me to “start saving now”, even when I was a little kid. As someone who has always wanted to go to higher education, but lacked the money, the concept of saving never really seemed outlandish or difficult to me. Of course, everyday life gets in the way of that; doctor visits, grocery shopping, and taking care of pets make saving for college a low priority. Now that I am heading off to college soon, I am really worried that I will be in a mountain of debt like many other students are. Money has been a touchy subject for my family for as long as I can remember and it would make sense to think that spending over $20,000 in a year is horrifying to my family and I. My parents already spend quite a bit to ensure that both my brother and I live comfortably, have nice clothes to wear, and good food to eat, but they also have to buy medications for all of us, pay for the care of our special needs pets, and pay for the care that my grandmother receives in the
“70% of Americans will study at a 4-year college, but less than 2/3 will graduate” (Beckstead np). In light of this staggering statistic, we notice that maybe, just maybe college should not be a thoughtless choice. Having numerous interests myself, I have considered several options to further my own career path. For example, I am interested in cosmology school but I also want to pursue a law degree. Upon much deliberation, I decided that best path for myself is to attend a state university. After reaching options, I realize that a four-year degree is not for everyone. However, everyone needs to further their education in any field of study after high school; however, college is not the only one option. Although society today will heavily push the idea of college; a college degree is a great selection but not the best choice for every young adult; however, I do think that everyone needs to continue their education. Whether the education is a Master’s Degree from an Ivy League school or a welding certificate from a community college or a military education, everyone should further their instruction to gain a specific path to earn an income. Just because you are not a doctor or a lawyer, I strongly believe, that this does not mean that you are uneducated. Contrary to the stigma
