Why Increasing People Suffer from Obesity? Today, when people walk on the street, it is absolutely accessible to see someone who is overweight. As what stern has wrote, the estimated number of people who are overweight exceed the number of people who are suffering from malnutrition in 2000. Nowadays, obesity is not only a disease of the rich people, but also the ordinary citizen. And people with low incomes tend to be more likely to be obese than those who get high incomes. According to Stern and Kazaks, “this is not a recent phenomenon- it goes back more than 10,000 years” (Stern 4). What can cause people be overweight today? Actually, more and more people become obese because of lack of

In addition to lack of exercise, the second factor which can cause obesity is unbalanced calories. This point is the most likely important reason for obesity. Calories balance can be explain to people’s calories IN equals calories OUT. Calories IN is the energy that you gain from the food you eat and drink. Calories OUT means that one certain part of energy is used to do something, such as sleeping, walking, and breathing. According to Gary H. Gibbons, “What Causes Overweight and Obesity?”, “Overweight and obesity happen over time when you take in more calories than you use.” To be more specific, what people have gained can not be used then the energy will stay in their body and become fat. Take an experiment as an example. When you use a bathtub, you open the tap for 2 minutes and close. Then you open the valve(imagine that we have the same size of valve and tap) for 1 minutes and close. As a result, there is still water in the bathtub. If you proceed this action again and again, the tub will be filled soon , which is really like people gain weight and become obese. To summarize, if you want to lose weight or avoid obesity, you need have a energy balance which means you should make calories IN equals or less than calories OUT. As well as lack of exercise and unbalanced calories taken, another factor that causes overweight is unhealthy customs in life. As we all know, everyone has their own hobbies, including awesome hobbies and
Obesity is defined as a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduce life expectancy and/or increased health problems. “The problem of obesity is increasing in the United States. Understanding the impact of social inequalities on health has become a public health priority in the new millennium. Social, political, and economic factors now are acknowledged to be "fundamental" causes of disease that affect behavior, beliefs, and biology.” (Goodman, 2003) In the United States today, obesity has become an enormous problem. In the last 3 decades, the number of people overweight has increased dramatically. Obesity has not always been seen as a medical
Recently, a lot of debate has gone around about whether or not obesity is considered a disease or not. It is very difficult to pinpoint one sole reason obesity is occurring in people, there are many different justifications for what causes a person to become obese. Obesity is a disease that is currently sweeping the entire world. Percentages of not just adults, but children are skyrocketing like never before. People have never been so overweight until now. I am going to examine why obesity is considered a disease through a scientific, economic, historical, and futuristic lenses.
Obesity is one of the main topics in America including one of the main reasons of death.-(begin with a subject) Detecting obesity is easy, but treating it can be very hard to do. Never have there have been so many teens and children not only overweight but obese. In some ways, it could be called the plague of the twenty- first century due to adolescents and teenagers indulging themselves in a plethora of food for every meal they have, therefore becoming overweight and morbidly obese. In the eighteen hundreds there was not a fast food place to go to unlike these days, so children were not obese like they are
“Worldwide, at least 2.8 million people die each year as a result of being overweight or obese and an estimated 35.8 million (2.3%) of global DALYs are caused by overweight or obesity” (Global Health Observatory data, 2017). With the help of others, adults and teens in the world will strive in their goals to achieve weight loss. What are the causes and history of obesity? What routines, diet, treatment are available for the overweight individual? Are there support groups for obesity?
In the beginning, it was just a few grains of sand. Now, those grains have seemed to triple in amount. The 1960’s were great, as many might recall. New rock bands from other countries were jamming out making number one hits on the billboards. Times were actually changing in more than just that one way though. Hiding behind the curtains, an “epidemic,” was about to break out. Unlike many epidemics, this one only pertained to the United States. The United States of America is very unique in many ways compared to most other countries of the world. Ranging from activities and the way they live, to the way its government is ran and how different the means of education
Since the 1980’s, there has been a steady increase in the percentage of people who are obese in every country around the world. Americans have the greatest percentage of obesity among adults at just over thirty percent. What has caused this epidemic to rise so uncontrollably? The growth of obesity in America is primarily caused by environmental factors rather than genetic factors because only a small amount of obese people have the genes that contribute to obesity.
Experts have found that there are three contributing factors when studying the causes of obesity: biological factors, decreases in physical activity, and poverty. At its most basic the cause of obesity is the taking in more calories, or energy, than one uses. As people have strived to reach the American Dream – a life of abundance and ease – the biology of the body did not change. This makes it difficult for people to remain slim and healthy.
Obesity has grown so much it can now be said to have replaced smoking as the number one preventable cause of diseases in America. Even though the obese have to be responsible when deciding what and how much to eat, society is what not only created obesity but also discriminates against them. The media, food market, and the rapidly advancing technology are all factors that influence not only the increase in obesity rates, but also the psychological status of the obese.
However, calorie intake is not the only factor in obesity, lack of exercise is another one. We now know obesity is an excess of potential energy. The thing about energy is that it can neither be created nor destroyed, so that potential energy is there to stay, unless it is converted to kinetic energy. To convert it to kinetic energy all we have to do is to move because kinetic energy is just energy in motion. In other words we have to exercise. Exercise, a word that produces groans and moans because it is just “so hard”. Wrong, exercise can be fun, instead of running on the dreaded treadmill, with its judgmental timer staring at you, have races with your kids for about fifteen minutes a day. If you are not a parent then race with your friends or play tag with your siblings. I am not going to lie, those fifteen minutes are hard to accomplish, and so many people just decide that it is not worth it. However it is a decision, a choice that they made of their own free will. Sure, not burning those unnecessary can result in an excess of fat, which leads to obesity but that is a choice that one makes.
First of all there are many causes of obesity, A lot of people ask why is there such a large increase of obesity in the last twenty years, and there are many simple answers, and
Why is there an obesity epidemic worldwide? Is it possible to stop this epidemic or has the approach to the epidemic been wrong all along? Some of the answers may lie within this documentary of Fed Up.
Some researchers point to the traditional argument of eating too much and exercising too little as the culprit, whereas others offer alternative explanations, including the role of genetics and viruses that have been linked to obesity. The issue of excessive weight and obesity gets even more complicated, as many studies have linked being fat with poverty, which goes against a popular association of obesity and wealth. Obviously, nobody needs to be considered the fussy eater(the person who brings their own dressing to eateries or declines to request anything as is on the menu), yet once in a while grasping a more beneficial lifestyle implies doing new things that most likely won't feel common at first. We're not discussing outrageous measures here, but rather little propensities like beginning the morning with a big glass of water and eating more vegetables and less processed foods. There are many ways to improve bad eating
For the past centuries, food scarcity and hunger had been considered as a harmful situation. People who are overweight or obese were seen as wealthy and successful. As time progresses, more food were made available such cause the population of people who are of great weight to rise as well. The availability of food at first, produce a healthy population but slowly, it became a world health problem Through industrial technology, production of unhealthy processed food became faster and easier. Soon, appliances, machines, cars created a situation where in it requires less movement to accomplish chores and leads to a sedentary life style. Such were the reasons why the obesity rate continuously skyrocketed through the
Obesity refers to the condition of having an extra amount of body fat. Obesity is caused by eating too much and moving too little. When an individual’s amount of body fat becomes too high, they are at a greater risk of being affected with life changing diseases such as heart failure, hypertension, type II diabetes, cancer, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, and others. This shows that people should become more physically active and attempt to make healthier choices because their life depends on the decisions, they make.
There are many serious health issues today in society. A few of them are anorexia nervosa, bulimia, diabetes, and obesity. Today, obesity is one of the most popular diseases around the world. Obesity typically means having a body mass index of thirty kilograms or more. If taken in more calories than burned, it leads to being overweight, and eventually obesity. Since the 1960s, people in the United States and other industrialized countries have become heavier on average. Excess weight is the cause of more illness than virtually any other medical condition. Most people still do not practice healthy behaviors that can prevent obesity. Obesity is mostly caused by poor eating habits. People do not eat healthy foods, have larger portions than
