Abortion: Right or Wrong
Is abortion wrong? Does a fetus have rights? Should a woman have the right to abort if she decides she does not want to have a child? Should a father have a say in whether a fetus is aborted or carried to term? There are countless reasons a woman may choose to have an abortion. Abortion is a controversial and emotional topic that sparks a great deal of debate. Hearing facts will assist one in deriving a more knowledgeable stance on the matter.
There are several circumstances that may cause a woman to choose to have an abortion. For instance, if she conceived because of a rape or incest, she may not want to carry the child to term. While the mother may not want a constant reminder running around, bringing back memories of what had happened to her, luckily, abortion is not her only alternative. Numerous families are incapable of having children of their own and would be extremely grateful and feel privileged to be able to adopt a newborn. If she becomes pregnant unexpectedly and is not in a position in her life to raise a child, she may feel she does not currently want to have a child. In the event test results show the child will be born with a life-threatening disability, the mother may prefer to abort. A woman might also choose to abort if her medical (ectopic pregnancy) or mental health would be in jeopardy by continuing the pregnancy (Finer et al. 112). Nevertheless, there are laws in place that permit a woman to decide whether the unborn child lives or dies.
In addition to the circumstances surrounding the reasons a woman might choose abortion, one must also take into consideration the different methods of abortion. The emergency contraception pill, commonly referred to as the morning after pill, can be taken within 72 hours of intercourse to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. The pill(s) contain a combination of estrogen, progestin, or danocrine. The hormones cause a disruption in the uterine lining, ultimately preventing a pregnancy from occurring. Women typically chose this option following a rape. Another reason a woman might choose this method would be if the condom broke, or she had been on antibiotics causing her birth control to not be effective. As with
The ongoing dispute of abortion has condemned the idea of women aborting their unborn child. Whether it be lack of support, critical physical or mental health, rape, or not being ready for such responsibility - all women have a reason for having an abortion. Therefore, women should have the free will to do what proves necessary and beneficial to themselves and their pregnancy.
Life can be really harsh on a woman, especially when she is opting to have an abortion. Abortion may emerge as the only way or option for some women. Although a mother may have a difficult time when opting for this option, she may ultimately consider this harsh reality, keeping in mind all the pros and cons of this decision. In fact, abortion has been and always will be a hot and heated topic amongst the masses as people have their own thoughts and opinion regarding it.
Abortion is a social and political issue that many people worldwide feel strongly about. Although the thought of “killing” another human being sounds horrific, it may be the only choice. The question that is often asked, does a woman have the right to choose what happens to her unborn child. Since a woman must carry a child during pregnancy and then be responsible for its physical, intellectual, and emotional well-being, as well as the enormous expense associated with raising a child, she should be allowed to decide if she wants an abortion.
The topic of abortion is very controversial. Many believe that an abortion is morally wrong while others think that everyone should have a choice whether to keep the baby or not. Shafer-Landau states in the introduction of The Ethical Life, “morality is the code that we should live by” (Shafer-Landau 1). Many different religions have different point of views whether abortion is morally right or wrong. Many different people have questions about how we ought to live and what we should believe (Shafer-Landau 1). I personally sit on the fence whether abortion is right or wrong because I can agree with certain points from both pro-life and pro-choice but, for this paper, I’m going to support the pro-choice side of abortion. I believe everyone who is having a baby should have a choice to abort it if that is what they want.
Every single year, this silent horror kills about as many Americans as have been killed on all the battlefields in all of the wars in U.S. history combined according to Michael Snyder. Every time an abortion takes place, a innocent human is being killed. Some people call it murder. Every since 1973, the Roe v. Wade case on abortion this subject has been a world controversy, and the supreme court division gave women the right, in consultation with their physicians, to choose abortion (Gale). After 1973, abortion was not illegal anymore. Ever since, this has been a major issue. Yes, people make mistakes, but people have to live with their mistakes. Abortion should not be an option to anyone except in a few specific situations. Abortion not only is very bad for the mother's health, it can also lead to complications for later babies down the road. Every human has rights. Every human has the right to be protected whether he or she is in the womb or standing alone. The fetus is still a human. Abortion is morally wrong. Not only in some religions, but is wrong period. Killing a baby is not a way to fix the mistake made. There are only a couple specific situations where any woman should try and argue the reason why they should get an
One reason women may choose to have an abortion is they don’t have the financial resources to support themselves or a child. By allowing women to make their own reproductive choices, it will allow women in poverty stricken situations to choose what they feel is right. A study from The University of Massachusetts at Amherst conducted on Oct. 2010 found that women at all income levels earn less when they have children.
A woman has many decisions to make when considering an abortion. Whether they are thinking about a medication abortion or a in-clinic abortion procedure. There are three main reasons why women have abortions: it’s their only way out of an unplanned pregnancy, relationship problems or financial instability. These reasons may sound selfish but a pregnancy that occurs at the wrong time may have a life long impact on women.
Abortion has always been a strong topic for me, my family has dealt with that situation of deciding whether my cousin should get an abortion or not. I strongly believe that abortion is wrong and I am against it. I have had to research both sides and have come to understand that women suffer a lot and don't know what to do so they come to the conclusion of thinking that abortion is the only choice for them. Although it is allowed in many states, I personally think that abortion is not the last or only choice. There are many other options for mothers that do not wish to keep the child.
Abortions are done in many different ways and at many different times of the pregnancy. There are six different types of abortion. (1) “RU-486 is a drug that produces an abortion. It is taken after the mother misses her period. It can be used up to the second month of pregnancy. It works by blocking progesterone, a crucial hormone during pregnancy. Without progesterone, the uterine lining does not provide food, fluid and oxygen to the tiny developing baby. The baby cannot survive. A second drug is then given that stimulates the uterus to contract and the baby is expelled. Women who abort with the drug RU-486 experience nausea, severe cramping, vomiting and bleeding. But the resulting emotional distress may have even more impact. Rather than being “over with” in a few minutes (as in a surgical abortion) this abortion could last for over a week. Then, when the woman finally does abort, she will expel a tiny dead human being - her baby. (2) Suction-Aspiration. In this method, the cervical muscle ring must be paralyzed and stretched open.
There are two great days in a person’s life, the day we are born, and the day we discover why (William Barclay). Imagine having those days being taken without even having a chance to experience them because you weren’t considered human yet. There’s an endless deliberation on abortion and whether it’s acceptable. Some feel it is up to the parent or parents and others feel it’s just outright murder no matter what. I personally am pro-choice because you never know how the child was conceived.
Abortion is a procedure performed when a mother wants to dispose/ kill the baby. This procedure can be done at any stage of pregnancy. The procedures are not only immoral but also brutal. Abortion is wrong and needs to be stopped.
Abortion is defined as “The removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end the pregnancy” (dictionary.com). However, if only the debate over the abortion issue was as easy as the definition listed above. However, similar to most things in life, a statement or opinion is never right nor wrong, but simply left open for clarification. Those who are against abortion believe that abortion is the murder of innocent human beings who aren’t given a chance at life and the ability to function as a normal individual. However, those who are for abortion believe that it is a women’s right to choose what she does to not only her baby but
Abortion is a highly-debated topic of whether it is ethical for a woman to decide to have one. Abortion is any of various surgical methods for deliberately terminating a pregnancy. When we speak of abortion today, we mean induced abortion performed by trained doctors, not including miscarriage (MacKinnon & Fiala, 2015). Some current methods of abortion are morning-after pill, mifepristone, uterine or vacuum aspiration, dilation and curettage, saline solution, prostaglandin drugs, hysterotomy, and partial birth abortion. Abortion involves questions about rights, happiness, and well-being, as well as the status and value of human life. The people who think it is ethical to have an abortion stand on the Pro-choice side and the people who think it is unethical stand on the Pro-life side. The liberal view of abortion supports abortions and the conservative view opposes abortion. There are many legal, religious, and medical conflicts that are included in the debate over abortion. The arguments made from both sides help us better understand whether a woman should have an abortion.
For several years there has been an ongoing debate whether abortion is wrong or right. More specifically, the issue breaks down between an ethical and legal issue. Some pro-life people argue that an abortion is morally wrong and should be illegal. Others that are pro-choice argue that an abortion is a legal and bodily right. Whether an abortion is wrong or right, each side supports different arguments.
There are two terms to define abortion, therapeutic and elective. A therapeutic abortion occurs when for medical reason a pregnancy is interrupted before the 20th week of gestation because it endangers the mother’s life or health or because the baby presumably would not be normal (Affigne, 2006). An elective abortion is initiated by choice. Access to family planning education and contraceptive services have increased as an effort to reduce the number of abortions performed. Although, some pro-lifers are against family planning programs such as Planned Parenthood because they also perform abortions, pro-lifers would prefer to promote abstinence instead of fornication (Walden, 2009).
