The soil was so hard, rocky, and mountainous that there was a Greek legend that says that God when making the Earth put each country through a strainer and that the rocks left in the strainer became Greece. This layout of Ancient Greece made it extremely hard for the Greeks to travel by land which eventually led them to sailing. Another negative of the geography of Ancient Greece was the unpredictable volcano eruptions and earthquakes. As stated in Document 3 the volcano eruptions were common because Greece is right in the middle of a very active volcanic zone where the Europe and Africa tectonic plates meet. Greece was a beautiful country of the arts. Ancient Greece’s time was around 2000 to 30 B.C.E. Ancient Greece’s people had to deal with mountainous lands, making it hard to live there. Though these causes were against them, they survived and had beautiful and dramatic plays, arts, and architecture. Greece had many wonderful and terrible leaders, and took over much of the ancient world.. Greece had a very rich religion, counting up thousands of gods. Greece also was known for their arts, from pottery to dramatic plays.

All around us are the remnants of people that came before. Pieces of themselves left behind through bedtime stories, breakthrough science, and breathtaking art. You see and experience their memory every day. Everyone has left their mark in history but some people and some cultures can be felt in almost all aspects of life. One of these legacies belongs to Ancient Greece. Through establishing many of the sciences we use now, creating architecture that has influenced some of the most well-known buildings in the world, and by conceiving what we know today as the foundation of our country the Greeks have a larger impression on society than any other culture in history.

A successful empire has made a significant impact on the modern world. Greece has impacted the modern world through its sports, for example, the Olympics which used to be just 241 men from 14 countries in 1896 to 27,000 elite athletes from more than 200 countries competing in 28 sports now. Its architecture has influenced the Lincoln memorial, The White House, etc. Also with its government styles. At first only Athens practiced a democratic government and now 123 countries of 192 have a democracy, so that shows how the Greek politics had a big impact on our world. And its discoveries in philosophy, math and science, the most important philosopher in Greece was Archimedes, the founder of the value of pi and every practical idea in some way refers

Ancient Greece is a peninsula, surrounded by waters on three sides. The mainland is surrounded the Aegean Sea to the east and the Mediterranean Sea on the south and west coast. About 80% of Greece mainland is mountainous. The Aegean Sea is home to over 1,000 islands. The climate in Ancient Greek is generally hot and humid in the summer, and mild winter.

Ancient Greece has contributed to the modern day fields of philosophy, math, and medicine in many different ways. If the Greeks hadn’t done anything in those fields the world today would be a lot less advanced.

Ancient Greece is important to learn about because ancient Greece changed their lifestyle to what we use today so we have gotten almost all of our things from ancient Greece. Ancient Greece created the Olympic games. Greek´s started doing the Olympic games because they knew that the Minoans had only done sports like that but Greekś created the Olympics. The first games started in mid-July 776 B.C. In the games they had to compete naked! The Olympicś were held in Olympia in honor of the Greek god Zeus. Every fourth year after that athletes and spectators gathered from across the Greekś place to preform.

The ancient Greeks had one of the most interesting geography of any ancient civilization. With mountains covering three-fourths of ancient Greece, and their only way to efficiently travel was by sea, it brought many interesting scenarios. Overall, the geography of ancient Greece gave the Greeks many hardships, but allowed them to survive through ancient times.

Ancient Greece was made of six cities which were Megara, Athena, Sparta, Olympia, Corinth, and Argos. The Ancient Greeks made their living by farming. Sometimes, the climate made it difficult to farm. Greek Agriculture consisted of cereal, olive oil, goats and sheep. Men were in charge of crops, sailing and hunting. These men would participate in the Olympic Games which were games in honor of Zeus.

The Greek people surrounded the Aegean Sea and dwelled in its multiple islands. Mountains were also a dominant presence in Greece’s mainland environment. Ancient Egypt Ancient Egypt is a wonderful, mysterious land. Thankfully for us today, the ancient Egyptians kept extensive records that allow us to understand most of the mysteries that Egypt has in store. Throughout time we have been able to understand and learn more about many subjects in the ancient Egyptian era such as the geography and why it was important to the ancient civilization, the pyramids and technology, the culture and art of the civilization, and some of the Great Pharaoh’s that shaped the mysterious land. Two geographical features of Ancient Greece had a deep consequence on how Greeks lived. The Mediterranean Sea and mountains. Both were vital geographical factors and had a momentous role on the social and political development of Greece. The mountains worked as barriers to isolate different areas. Cities established individually of one another, with its own unique social structures and governments. City-states grew separately and created their own identities. An example is the city-states of Sparta and Athens, both were very different. These differences would later cause wars, the First Peloponnesian War and Second Peloponnesian War. The vast environment of Ancient Greece did not only carry an extremely unique and rich formation of land but also benefitted and effected the life of the people who lived there, through Transportation via the Coastline, Climate, and the Terrain and Landscape.

I understand that you are unenthusiastic or disheartened towards learning about Greek mythology; and these feelings are understandable. Learning about something so ancient and “childish” can seem fruitless. However, that kind of logic is flawed. For more you know about the past, the more you understand about the present and even the future.
