Edgar Allan Poe- Alone Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19, 1809 and died on October 7, 1849. His parents David and Elizabeth Poe came to the U.S. in 1796, from England. His mother died in 1811, when Edgar was just two years old, while all his brothers went to live with their grandparents Edgar was left for adoption. Edgar was adopted by John and Rosalie Allan and now he had another family his new father was a very successful merchant, so Edgar was growing up in a good surrounding and went to a very good school. When Edgar was six he went to school in England for about five years, during that time he learned Latin and French as well as math and some history. Most of this poem is made up of imagery but it also has anaphora replaces words so it can avoid repetition of other words. In the poem he talks about being alone and how his past was dark but, with the use of anaphora he made it possible to make the poem without the repetition of the words. Another example would be “in the dawn of a most stormy life” meaning his life was pretty rough and sometimes it would be crazy. One more example would be this one, “I could not awaken my heart to joy” in this one he talks about how he did not experience joy like others did. Symbolism is a big part of the poem because it shows the meaning behind the words it makes you read between the lines and making you understand what the writer is talking about. Symbolism is use mostly so people will understand what the writer is talking about or just to understand the meaning behind the words, or what the sentence
