For about three to four summers I have been spending my time working in the fields. Every day after I was out of school for summer vacation until a week before school started again I was out under the hot sun cleaning weeds from onion plant or twining hop plants. I had to do something while school was out of session. I also had to work for everything I wanted and help out my parents with money for the monthly bills. Working in the fields helped me out a lot financially, but, there were many effects that came with it like: working under the hot sun, dealing with pesticides, and enduring musculoskeletal injuries. The first effect that I faced while working in the fields was the hot sun. Working under the hot sun can be dangerous because of the
Since money is an issue, I work during the summers. I worked for moving company and with my father with his cleaning company. Thanks to the generosity of the professors here at Texas A&M, I was able to find work at the Cyclotron Institute under Dr. Mioduszewski. There I was able experience what goes into physics research and earn a wage. I truly enjoy my time at the Cyclotron and it had greatly impacted my decision for future schooling and employment. The need for money pressured me to make take responsibility and it exposed me to many opportunities and a possible
This past summer, I worked as a Swim Instructor at The Preserve with the company, Fit Fins. The job was probably the best job a teenager could ever ask for. I got to teach kids ages sixteen months to twelve years old how to swim, I got to be in the pool every day for hours, I could go in the hot tub on my breaks, and I got super tan. There was really only one downside to this job; it was a summer job. By summer job, I mean it only lasts from June to late August. This could also be a plus side, since I get fall, winter, and spring off; however, this means I'm out of a job for nine months. So now my current job is at Old Navy. I decided to get another seasonal job because I figured I needed to pay for things like my Ramen Noodle addiction or the Christmas season.
For a year now I have worked as a waitress and a hostess at the independent living side of a retirement home. This has been a very large impact on my life financially, emotionally, and academically.
The article " Working in the Fields" describe kids working in the fields to help support their families. First, it explains a kid named James who spent the summer on a farm in Ohio. He works nine hours a day, 54-14 hours over the legal limit for kids. Then the article talks about a kid named Rodrigo who came here illegally. He has to travel over 2,200 miles. It also talks about Jessica, she is 14-years old and she works on a farm with her father and brothers. Finally, the article talks about an organization that helps kids who work in the fields learn and stay healthy.
Last summer I wanted to work and earn a little cash and distract myself and not be home all summer. I didn't know where to apply so I applied everywhere I was even open to working in the fields my parents told me that the fields were the last place they ever wanted me to work. My mom and step dad Raul always told me that field work wasn't easy and that it was not for me but I didn't listen.
Due to the economic instability, it was extremely difficult for my father to find another job. So, he decided to take a huge risk and invest in a family business of stationery materials. The long hours and stress weighed down my father, and greatly affected my family. Consequently, I had to work even harder to ensure the security of our family income. While my friends were sleeping, I would wake up at six in the morning to open and set up the shop. Also, since my family couldn’t afford basic transportation, I had to walk to and from school daily. After returning from school, I would work at the shop while attempting to finish schoolwork until closing. While my peers were enjoying their childhood, I was being crushed by the responsibilities of my demanding family business and my overwhelming heap of schoolwork. However, facing such adversity gave me a strong sense of perseverance and diligence that I will always cherish, respect, and retain. I was fortunate enough to immigrate to the United States and start my life over. Even though moving to a completely new country at the
work hard to get money. It also describes how the sun and dad work hard just to get money for their families. First, it explains that James Flores has spent summers on the farm in ohio. It is exhausting work, but she gives half her wages to her father. Finally, many migrants
After suffering through a ninety hour work week I receive my meager paycheck. A paycheck that is barely enough to buy bread for two people, much less for an entire family. Because of this my three young sons of thirteen, eleven, and nine must work in the local textile factory if they want to eat for the
While I was in high school I wasn’t fully committed to my studies and believed I didn’t have the potential it took to get into college. I graduated high school early when I first turned 17 through a early graduated program because I followed the wrong crowd and believed I wouldn’t be accepted to a university anyways. After I graduated high school I wanted to move out on my own and get a low paying job and apartment so I could support myself because I was always worried about being a burden to my family. Struggling to make ends meet every month really gave me a good work ethic because this was the first time I experienced having to make ends-meet. I worked until the end of my 6-month lease and eventually ended up moving back in with my parents
My mother had several scholarship offers but since she was a single parent who wasn’t receiving much help she dropped out of school and started working two jobs, McDonald’s and Wal-Mart. Nothing fancy, but it kept the bills paid. She taught me how to read at 4 years old because she always wanted me to be better than her and she said education is the key to success. When I started school I was bullied a lot. Mostly because of the clothes I
The summer of 2016 I began to work in order to have money for myself and to help my family out, economically. It was definitely the worst job ever, it was in the field so it was obviously very hot, exhausting, and challenging. I arrived at work at about 6 am and it was already very hot, and I had to work in the sun all day until about 5 pm. By the end of summer, I was already all sunburned. Working in the sun almost all day and everyday was very exhausting for me. I would get home and take a shower, eat, and sleep until the next day to wake up for work again. The work was very challenging, because my wage was depending on what I made in the day. I had to work very fast in order to make many dozens of onions in order to have a good check by
When it comes to employment, I initially stuck to being seasonally employed, working at the YMCA only in the summer. As a student with a full academic schedule, I questioned my ability
I have been working since I was 16 years old. I was that kid who paid for his own graduation invitations. Being the fourth child of six to a single mother, you had to work to get anything you wanted because she was barely able to give us what we needed. Like many students from lower middle class home financial aid pays for school but not enough to clothed and feed you. My first few years at NLU/ULM I worked in the summer and did a work study during the fall and spring. It was not until spring of 2001 when I my college career took the back seat. I had gotten a job as bus boy at Outback Steakhouse because I had moved off campus. Two months later I got promoted to server and then things changed.
I started working at an early age and helped me obtain a steady income for my family. I could constitute a job as a way that helped protect my health/HEALTH. My mother was a house
working outside to get heat stroke. At such a hot condition, people working outdoors will also have a lower working efficiency.
