I will start this review by letting you all know it may be colored by the fact that I’m a HUGE Potterhead...so make of that what you will!
Having read every Harry Potter novel and seen every Harry Potter film (and a whole lot of fan fiction), I believed for years that J.K. Rowling could do no wrong. However, after the release of the disappointing Cursed Child script earlier this year, I was nervous for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Although not written by Rowling, Cursed Child had her stamp of approval. Was the Harry Potter universe about to suffer over-dilution to the point of ruining everything? No. Fantastic Beasts confirmed, for me, that J.K. Rowling is still a magical writer who can do no wrong.
Fantastic Beasts and

Do not go in to Fantastic Beasts expecting an elaborate plot with mysteries you can’t solve. It’s easy to figure out who the bad guys are. However, that didn’t stop me from loving the movie and the characters. My group’s favorite part unanimously was when you got to step inside Newt’s briefcase full of creatures. The visual effects team really brought all of Newt’s creatures to life. You got to see creatures familiar and unfamiliar, all in their own habitats and with their own individual characteristics just as Newt sees them. It was like being on Noah’s Arc...but with significantly more …show more content…
Jacob is basically all of us if we found out magic was real: “I wanna be a wizard.” He continued to steal the show and quickly became everyone’s favorite character. He’s another unlikely hero we didn’t know we needed (god bless you JKR.) Fantastic Beasts isn’t short of strong female characters either. Katherine Waterston as Goldstein and Alison Sudol as her sister Queenie are powerful women who rarely need saving. The President of the Ministry of Magic in America is even a woman...which is pretty bold for the 1920’s
In the bible it says that wizards, devils and demons exist and are powerful and dangerous. People have a fear that any books with good witches, wizards and good magic will lead people to take the bible’s teachings lightly and may convince them to become witches. Another reason that Harry Potter is banned is that it sets unsatisfactory examples for kids reading the book by Harry and his friends disobey, lie and break rules. People think that kids reading the books will think they can get away with things that they normally would not get away with. A third reason that Harry Potter is banned is it is too eerie and dark. The battles that the characters are required to go through and how the characters die is too
Hundreds of students, parents, and faculty members gathered and created an audience to witness J.K Rowling’s speech at Harvard University in 2008. J.K Rowling is a well-known author, famous for her Harry Potter book series, and much more. Rowling’s speech was well thought out, and delivered excellently, with three main points she addresses throughout the speech. The three points being: failure can lead a person to success, never give up hope on your dreams and aspirations, and lastly Rowling emphasizes the importance of imagination. Sometimes we fail to see that the obstacles in our life help shape the road to our success in the future, and Rowling points out to us that failures and obstacles is what helped us become successful , and to never ignore that.
Blanche made choices which are all wrong, like drinking alcohol and giving herself to other men. Her first bad choice was when her young husband died and she started drinking alcohol and became sexual indiscrimination. According to the book alcohol helped her to forget the pain that she went through. Blanche could of talked about her husband death to someone who she was close with in her town but instead she got addicted to this bad habit of drinking alcohol. My second point is that blanche gives herself to men. Apparently she had felt that she had in some ways and she had tried to alleviate her guilt by giving herself to a random men young men, Blanche said “intimacies with strangers was all I seem able to fill my empty
Mr. Radley had no right to take away Arthur’s rights as a human being. Mr. Radley refused to send Arthur to an asylum even though he was declared mentally disabled after he allegedly stabbed his father. Thus, Arthur was denied the right to receive professional medical help. When Arthur was forced to stay in the courthouse basement, he was denied the right to live in his own home. In addition, Arthur was unable to partake in community events. He was not protected from his father’s degrading treatment. He was detained for a long period of time. Although Arthur misbehaved as a teenager, Mr. Radley should not have deprived him of his rights because Arthur was still a human being. He deserved life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, but Mr.
In the novel "Huckleberry Finn" by. Mark Twain, I think Huck protects Jim is by canoe, he did this because he wanted to save Huck from being a murder one day because that is what kind of fix they are in now but Huck would like to get Jim out of that fix into a better fix. So, Huck finds a canoe floating and gets in it and says "I will protect your freedom". Huck is able to work through his dilemma by helping Jim stay out of trouble and keep his record clean.
Huckleberry Finn was written somewhere between 1835 to 1845. During this time, the abolitionist movement really began to get moving. There were abolitionists before this, but people got sick of tolerating slavery and started to be against it at the beginning of the 1830’s. In response, Mark Twain wrote Huckleberry Finn with Huck Finn being the main character. Huck’s thoughts went against the traditional person with the “normal” views on topics such as slavery. Huck was raised without any moral background. He had a drunken dad and no mom. Huck did things like ditch school or break a law here and there. His dad never brought him to places of worship his whole life. Huck raised himself, basically, because his dad was so drunk all the time.
The book Harry Potter and the Half-blood prince, is part of the Harry Potter book series by JK. Rowling. This particular book is about Harry learning more about Voldemort’s past, and trying to unfold a plot that Harry believes is happening inside of Hogwarts. “Harry Potter and Half-Blood Prince” by JK. Rowling have been tossed back and forth about being banned over the years. The book was banned in many schools and libraries, due to the fact that many Christian parents and teachers believe that their children should not be exposed to the acts of sorcery and witchcraft. The book should not have been banned because there is nothing truly bad in this book, it will just make kids think more.
Huck Finn has a noticeably different mindset then the rest of the characters in the novel. Though society has pointed out what is 'wrong' and what is 'right', Huck still struggles to decide between these two forces, because what is considered right, feels wrong to him internally, and what is considered wrong, feels right. When Huck and Jim go along traveling together on the raft Huck begins to have an internal conflict on weather or not to report Jim as a runaway slave. We, ourselves see slavery as something that is wrong and immoral, but back in Huck's time period slavery was normal and anyone who helped a slave runaway was considered a criminal. Now the question stands, which one of these is morally right? The answer is both. Morality isn't judged upon logic or reason, but instead it’s determined by what the
Anyone who has worked with children will agree that they are very impressionable. Even young adults are influenced by the media, literature, peers, money, and paradigms which is why parents and guardians would also agree that any impressionable source their children come in contact with should include desirable, good-natured content, such as life lessons and morals. In the past two decades, Harry Potter, a famous work of J.K. Rowling, has become increasingly popular and well known, but sensations also come with reproaches from strong willed adults that claim simple fictional details are consuming and corrupting their children. Parents and guardians believe that Harry Potter should be banned from use in schools and libraries, but they don’t
During the beginning of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Jim and Huck were not close. They were barely even friends. Huck thought of Jim as a servant, not a friend. As the book progressed however, Jim and Huck became closer. One could even say that by the end of the book Jim was like a father or brother to Huck. As Huck develops as a person, it becomes easier for him to see Jim as a human and not just property and helping him, while it may be wrong, is the right thing to do in his eyes.
One of the main scenes in TAHF that came to mind after being asked which scene I could personally relate to is when Huck Finn just can’t seem to avoid moral conflicts. There have been many times in my life when I wasn’t sure of what to do in a sticky situation and that’s when I question myself most. Finn did what’s best, which is following his instincts no matter what others tell him to do or say about difficult times. In the text it states, “Pap always said it warn't no harm to borrow things if you was meaning to pay them back some time, but the widow said it warn't anything but a soft name for stealing, and no decent body would do it. Jim said he reckoned the widow was partly right and pap was partly right; so the
"Harry Potter has been in the 1990-1999 and 2000-2009 “Frequently Challenged Books” lists and currently is on the “Frequently Challenged Children’s Books” list." (bannedbooksweek.org). “When it came out, some people said the book was about Satan and promoted witchcraft.” (LaRue, 2016). This reasoning cause parents to file complaint to schools asking them to remove the books from their libraries. Some school even had to require a permission slip from the children’s parents. Now not all parents were like this. Some parents did not see the comparison with magic as Satanic but as another fantasy book like The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia. Other parents thought the censorship was absurd and a few of them took actions to voice that opinion. For example: Counts v. Cedarville School District. In this case, Cedarville school board voted that the Harry Potter books would require a permission slip if a child wish to check it out. This vote infuriated some parents so much that they took it court. The parents argued that this vote was against the First Amendment and won the case requiring all libraries in that district to get rid of the permission slips. Even though the book series has ended, there is still controversy over it
The Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling has created quite a stir among public schools and churches. Some parents and ministers are afraid these books are teaching wizardry, witchcraft, and evil to their children, while others think they are books of harmless fantasy. There are two sides to this controversy, but I believe that these are just a way for kids to make-believe and imagine.
J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series has become one of the most popular children’s series in the world over the past decade. Through these books children and young adults alike have delved into a fantastical world in which they explored the problems that their protagonist, Harry Potter, has faced. In Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, the sixth book of the Harry Potter series, Harry dealt with the challenge of proving to his peers and professors that Draco Malfoy and Severus Snape were no longer trustworthy. Even so, Harry failed to realize that the author of the notes in his Advanced Potion-Making book was corrupt. In this book, J.K. Rowling uses point of view, style, and irony to demonstrate the need for people to be more analytical
Although I am a strong supporter of this book series, I do find one thing wrong with the books. All the novels have endings which are almost the same, Harry saves the day and Voldemort the major antagonist gets defeated in one way or another. Also only Harry and his friends seem to be the ones who go on adventures to defeat huge beasts or save family members from monsters known as dementors, this to me makes the novel slightly unappealing but still one of
