You could say the Civil War was inevitable. From political, economic, and social injustices tension was brewing between two sides with opposing ideology. Slavery was the main issue being that the North opposed the practice and the South being in favor of it since they relied on slaves for their economy. Through political and social arguments, the South once and for all decided to break off from the Union and create their own country. Due to anger on both sides the Civil War was soon declared and the winner would take all and the loser return with nothing. Due to the huge boom in factories and workers the North experienced an great increase of economical power. Additionally, runaway and freed slaves typically migrated to the North for work which cause upset within the South. Furthermore, new ways of trading led to the increased demand of cotton which required more slaves. When the cotton gin was introduced this meant that more slaves could produce more cotton than before growing the slave population in the South. Finally, after previous wars such as the Mexican-American war was fought large amount of land was gained. An example being the John Brown raid in which a group of abolitionists planned to take over a federal complex and arm the slaves in the area creating a massive rebellion. Unfortunately, planning wasn’t conducted and many slaves turned down the offer due to fear. When news of the rebellion spread throughout the nation it was met with mixed reactions the North approving and the South being appalled of his actions and how the North would support such a thing. Another cause for the war was the abolitionist movement and publications by previous slaves or those who believed in banning slavery. A notable example of this would be the publications of Fredrick Douglas titled The Narrative of the Life Frederick Douglass in which helped gain sympathy from Northerners and people all around the world. Ending another factor in the Civil War were injustices such as the Dred Scott case which received a backlash or emotions. Originally Dred Scott sued his former slave owner for his emancipation since he had lived in territories free over slavery two times. When the court ruled against Dred Scott and outlined that African Americans are less than humans public outcry fled. His case however contributed to the war since it helped define the final days of slavery and how much of an impact slavery had on people.
