Why We Should Volunteer To Help The Homeless

Recently, I have been going to Atlanta than I used to. I’ve noticed the amount of homelessness they have there and wanted to do something to positive help them. I learned that volunteering in settings like this helps them to be able, which is their only meal that day, to eat. Homelessness is real and is an issue. This addresses it because it creates awareness.

There should be more homeless shelters in America to get people off the streets forever to help people who need it to make America a better place.

One way of helping the homeless is by volunteering at your local homeless shelter. I see myself, and want others to see me, as a compassionate individual. During high school, I tutored incoming freshmen in history and biology. I was once in their shoes, so I knew how important it was to have someone to help me out with what I was struggling with. In my junior and senior years of high school, I volunteered with the Bloodcenter of Wisconsin and the Red Cross, assisting donors when they felt uncomfortable, and donating blood myself. Why should we care about homeless people? That’s the kind of attitude you can witness that people have towards the homeless. Homelessness is a pretty common occurrence which might be a reason for people’s indifference towards it. People are unaware of the circumstances surrounding the homeless, which can lead them to believe their situation is like that because of their own personal choice. That is not entirely true and it’s an issue that should be addressed properly. Everyone should have the right to a stable place to live in that meets a their needs. There are many things in life that can strike one when they least expect it. The situation could either be winning the lotto or something bad like catching a fatal sickness, but no matter what it is, both will have a huge effect on ones life. Homelessness can happen to anyone at any given moment in their life for over a hundred different reasons. It does not even have to be their fault. For this reason exactly is why Americans should consider this a major crisis today. The amount of people becoming homeless in America is constantly growing. Although some people can get out of being homeless pretty quickly, more and more people are becoming homeless every day, and the more people that become homeless, the more people crowd the streets

There are homeless people all over the streets nowadays. With the job marketing going the way it’s going the growth of the homeless is becoming larger. There are all ages of the homeless and most of them are trying to find a job. I believe that the government should help get the homeless off the streets, that way it would be better for everyone, no more begging for money on the corners the homeless could find a way for them to. The People That Society Looks Down On Thesis Statement Over the years, I have seen so many homeless people sleeping on Train Station benches, in Parks, on the City Street Floors, or even holding up cardboard signs, “ Homeless Please Help”. From sophomore to senior year, I volunteered at the Glide Memorial Church, an organization that helps to serve food to the low- income and homeless. I decided to volunteer at Glide because I want to give back to the community that I am part of by mitigating the issue of homelessness in San Francisco. On the first day of volunteering, I was sent to pass trays of food to people. I like volunteering there because I enjoy seeing the smiles on the people’s faces when I pass the trays to them. As I continue to volunteer, I was placed in many positions and challenged myself with different and new responsibilities. I did clear up, help people to clear up their mess and clear up the trash. I help fill in food in the trays and pass the other volunteers.

Section #1 - Challenge Idea: My challenge idea begins with my love for helping others and doing the right thing. It involves integrity, compassion, and charity. Originally, I thought that I would just volunteer at the local food bank, or animal shelter for a few hours in order to complete this project. However, a great idea came to me, which would allow me to greatly help another person in need.

The homeless stand down was an eye-opener experience for me. I had the opportunity to interact with several individuals, and one family. Initially I conducted some interviews with them to help complete the questionnaire; and the remainder of the time, I escorted the individuals and helped them choose items that were necessary for them. As I talked to each of them, I realized that the present state of these individuals were a product of the current economic situations. Understanding these reasons for volunteering, is important and could give us concrete answers as to why people would participate in long-term volunteering. The issue of sufficient support networks for people in need is very important. It has a very crucial role to play in the well-being of people. We all need support when we are going through difficult times and knowing that there is someone there for you, someone who cares, can make all the difference in the world.
