One of the things that I think I did really well was that I provided a lot of great detail in my job application letter. I emphasized doing this in my job application letter because I wanted to show the employer that I had the skills that he wanted. For example, I know that for accounting internships, a basic understanding of Excel. However, my previous internship gave me more than basic skills in Excel. I made sure that I explained that I had more than a basic understanding of Excel with my pivot table story. This story not only shows that I have a strong understanding of pivot tables, a complex skill in Excel, but also shows how quickly I learned on the fly. Everyone has a generic resume, one for all the jobs that they apply for. It’s not the right way to attract the attention of the person who will hire you. Your past experiences will not matter if you don’t back them up and state how what you learned in your previous role will make you ready for this new role you are pursuing. For an ECE job, spill outer strategies in a classroom and what age group you are an expert in. For a nannying job, explain how you have great skills within the home environment and nurturing children. For PSWs, make sure that you state how you can make a seniors life easier with the skills you possess. We all matter, we all have skills but if you don’t highlight them…no-one will notice. As you can see I had many improvements to make to my cover letter and resume. Starting from adding examples into my cover letter to show the company how I have applied my skills in many different ways to adding transitions into my paper to make it flow better then to making my resume more visually appealing. My cover letter and resume has come a long way in the past week and a half and I have learned so much in each step of the way in this process to making them both great.

After reading “Susie the Screener,” I understood that we don’t need to rush when we write our resume because there are rules that we should follow and respect. What I kept in mind, just like Susie said in the article, is that a good resume has to be “clean, objective, orderly, and logical.”

With more people reviewing resumes and more interviews lined up before any decision is made, it is essential that your CV is specific to the job position needed to be filled, and written with clarity for everyone to be on the same page, regardless if they are the recruiter or employer. This way, you will be viewed as a good fit, rather than a so-so.

In my résumé I utilized white space, bold, italics, and different fonts to make my résumé uniform but also visually stimulating. I tried to vary fonts and sizes in order to draw the reader’s eye across the page.

You also need to pay attention to how you format your application. According to a Forbes article, nearly 75% of qualified job applicants are rejected due to things like incorrect resume formatting. So, paying attention to the format actually matters.
