The book Wildlife by Cynthia Defelice is an outstanding book. It is a fiction book which means that it did not happen in real life. This is about a kid named Erik that found out his mom and dad had to get shipped to a foreign country to serve and fight for their country. He must go live with his grandma and grandpa for a long time. He does not want to go but his parents have nowhere else to send him. A dog then shows up at Erik’s grandmas steps and Erik wants to keep it. He then runs away with the dog and goes hunting with it and his grandma and grandpa worry about him very much. He then comes back to the house after being out so long and the dog’s owner comes back and gets the dog. The setting takes place in North Dakota and the weather drastically changes day by day. Erick is a protagonist character and his grandma, Oma, is as well a protagonist character. But, as for his grandpa, Big Darrell, is an antagonist because he is always stubborn and isn’t appreciative. Erik is dynamic character because at the beginning, he is angry that he must …show more content…
It is this theme because once he gets to North Dakota, he hates it and wants to leave but once he goes hunting and finds out Big Darrell is actually a nice guy, then he wants to be their more. A symbol that would represent something is the dog and the gun. The gun represents Dan’s past and how much it meant to Erick. The dog shows that you should keep pushing for what you want because in the story, Quill pushes Erik to keep going and to just head back home. I liked the book because it spoke about the wild and how you should push yourself through whatever your facing. I would recommend this book to anyone that would like to read it. Overall, my favorite part of the book was when he was living out in the wild and survive with just him and the dog, my least favorite part was when Big Darrell was stubborn and wouldn’t do anything with his grandson
This book is called Duke. Its genre is Historical-Fiction. The story takes place during WWII. It is about a kid named Hobie who is always with his dog Duke. When he hears that the Army needs dogs for the war he realizes that he should be brave like his father, who is in the army, and lend Duke to the Dogs for Defense program. Hobie then regretted sending Duke after he realized that Duke could be in danger, get hurt or die. So he tries different methods to get Duke back such as send a letter saying that Duke always chases squirrels and that they should send him back because of that weakness. To find out whether Hobie gets his dog back or
And from a person like myself that doesn't like reading at all, I give this book all the credit it deserves for being filled with fascinating stories. Another attribute that i liked about this book is that it was simple to a certain extent. Gary never tried to use these giant words that only a select amount of readers would understand. That helped me feel more apart of the book because i never felt like i got lost in the words or didn't know what something meant. Another great thing about this book is how much he is in the nature. While i was reading this book i wanted to be outside more. I wanted to interact with nature and get out in the wilderness. This books examples of survival situations and outdoor encounters with animals encourages kids and adults of all ages to go outside and to me that is something that we need more of. All in all, this book was a great read for me. It kept me interested from the first to the last page. Not once while i was reading was i thinking to myself that i didn't want to read
it wasn't the best book rye bread but it was a good book. I like that story was about him running away from people that tried to find him and got adopted.it was kind of confusing and hard to believe was that heWas still alive after 2 shots in the leg. but I didn't like of the book was that it was showing a whole bunch of murder and all that. the story was kind of predictable because you could easily tell what was going to happen next. the story was believable becausethis event actually happened but what the part that was not a believable was the characters. the ending was not the best I've red but it was
1. Who are the most important characters? Identify the protagonist/antagonist/ Write down important information and characteristics about each one.
The one thing I have to say I enjoyed the most about the book was one of the themes of the book, acceptance. I liked this theme because majority of people can relate to the theme easily. All characters in the novel went through an adventure once the carnival arrived. In the beginning Charles Halloway did not see himself as the a good father to his son, William. Mr. Halloway was in his mid 50's and by being that old he could not connect with his son like a younger father could. “That’s Charles Halloway, thought Will, not grandfather, not far-wandering, ancient uncle, as some might think, but…my father” (14), Will didn’t see much in his father, just an old man and that was only because that was how Mr. Halloway showed himself. In Something Wicked This Way Comes it seems like people have a terrible time accepting their age. When the carnival comes into town it takes full advantage over that. Mr. Dark and his freaks can’t get to everyone though, Charles soon realizes the what the carnival’s weakness is. Charles Halloway destroyed the carnival, “All because he accepted everything at last, accepted the carnival, the hills beyond, the people in the hills, Jim, Will, and above all himself and all of life, and, accepting, threw back his head for the second time tonight and showed his acceptance
In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s there were a lot of things going on in the United States. New laws were being formed about child labor, women started standing up for themselves and demanding tights and just in general people started to realize that if they wanted something to change that they had to speak up to make a difference. As cities became more crowded, people started to look for peace in their chaotic lives. Before this time period, not many people valued the true beauty of the western United States and all of its beautiful scenery.
We The Animals, by Justin Torres, includes a variety of themes. There are themes of abuse, self-destruction, love, and etc. A theme that I have seen reoccur throughout the novel is the theme of exploration of one’s age. This theme can be seen especially in Ma’s character. In the chapter, “Never-Never Time”, Ma walks in on the boys (brothers) messing with tomatoes and lotion in the kitchen. After realizing what her children were doing, she asked them to “do it to [her]” and to “make [her] born” (Torres 6). As an adult, you would think she would have disciplined them. Instead, Ma engaged in the childlike activities with her children hinting a sense of immaturity. Fast forward to the chapter “Lina”, Ma once again reverts back to her role as a
I disliked the book because it was sad and it showed how his life all ruined
I thought that the characters were very involved and interesting, they made me want to keep reading for example in the text when Earl and Greg talk on the phone it’s funny. The plot wasn’t as interesting and it was pretty confusing, like the text kept changing. There were many themes in this book and they all stood out. The story through Greg’s point of view was fine until he was explaining stuff, I got confused when
The story is emotional, entertaining, and fun. The ending was amazing and unexpected. Also, the book comes with some delicious recipes. I highly recommend it.
The primary reason for my dislike of this book is the main character Boone Claudil. Boone is the protagonist, but quite frankly, I do not like him. The book begins when he is an arrogant and surly young man who keeps on, metaphorically, shooting himself in the foot. Meaning, he is continuously making trouble for himself and others
I like this book very much because I really like how the whole entire book revolves around bullying and how it has this main message in the book that is telling everyone that is reading it that you’re not alone and that there is always someone that can help you that is always by your side. In the book I have learned
The book I read was called Hoot. It was created by Carl Hiaasen in 2002, and won a Newberry Honor 2003. It was largely based around envirementalism, and how we need to protect endangered animal's habitats. The story starts out with Roy being bullied on the bus by a large, unruly enemy named Dana Matherson. Dana had mushed his face against the bus window when he saw an odd boy, running barefoot on the street. He decided to chase the boy, but Dana kept grabbing him, he punched Dana so hard that it breaks his nose. Roy then ran but got hurt by a golf ball and forfeit. Roy recently moved to Florida from Montana, which he was not pleased about, his father worked in the Federal Department of Justice, and he has moved to 6 different places for his
One thing I really enjoyed about the book was that the author explained everything in fun ways and added lots of poems. For example, when I was reading the section about eating bugs, there was a statistic about the amount of protein each bug has and the amount of bugs consumed each year. In addition, I liked the colorful
I am writing to you because I wanted to tell you what I liked and disliked about your book Old Yeller. Some things I disliked about you book was when the oldest boy had to shoot Old Yeller which made me feel very sad. Another thing was when the oldest boy Travis was at first, being mean to Old Yeller.Travis also liked to yell at the dog which was not right. The last thing I disliked about your book was when Travis did not try put up a fight to keep Old Yeller when the man showed up and said “Old Yeller belonged to him” unlike Arliss he put up a fight. Which all turned out ok since the man let him stay with them in the end.
