Reading and Writing Skills Veron, Ana Muriel R. 11 - Daniel – HUMSS Book Review February 9, 2018 Mr. J. Rafael Will Grayson, Will Grayson is a young adult coming-of-age novel by John Green and David Leviathan about two very different boys with the same name who meet each other at a very unexpected place. Each author writes about one Will Grayson. John Green’s Will Grayson, who uses proper capitalization, lives in the better part of Chicago and has loving parents. Will is quite the typical teenager, he does not like attention and has a set of rules he likes to live by: “1. Don't care too much. 2. Shut up. Everything unfortunate that has ever happened to me has stemmed from failure to follow one of the rules.” Although Will ends up abandoning …show more content…
Leviathan chose to write his will this way not only to differentiate him from Green’s but also to show how will sees himself: small. And also because he is also more accustomed to online chat-speak. This will grayson is dealing with depression and struggling with his sexuality. Cynical and sarcastic, he believes the world would be a much better place if he didn’t exist. Lowercase will prefers to avoid people, even his mother who cares very much about him. Despite this, he does have someone he really cares about – a boy named Isaac. Of course, will isn’t really sure if he’s a boy or if his name is actually “Isaac” because he only knows him …show more content…
will grayson’s inner conflict about his gender and struggle with depression but his eventual development into being more open about being gay and learning to care for people and letting them care for him. The concept of love was handled interestingly in Will Grayson’s story, using Schrödinger’s Cat as a metaphor for Will and Jane’s love for each other. That neither of them will know if their love is real or not until they open up to each other. Will Grayson’s friendship with Tiny is also… kinda relatable. In the end, the way will grayson and Will Grayson show their appreciation for Tiny
One reason that he finds his true self in this short story is that in the beginning, Will is confident. One example that he is confident is that he said “I’m really strong.” The text stated that he was comparing himself to Mike, and favored himself. Another example is that he said “That’s right.” in a menacing way. The short story
Therefore, Will is having issues finding out who he is if he stayed with the Smythe 's because his group of friends, whom he is trying to fit in with, would shun him, he would be taken away from his family and forget who he was and would be submerged in White Culture, losing his Aboriginal heritage.
The main focus is placed on Will, whom has a rare genius to put together abstract math problems and finds it hard to relate to world without getting arrested for doing something violent and rebellious. He grew up in South Boston and the hard streets have jaded him, while his intelligence further isolated him from people and made him hostile to other people. In the beginning of the film, Will is discovered by Lambeu (Stellan Skarsgard) a professor of mathematics, and his well-being becomes a serious issue and he is pursued. While placing a difficult math problem on the chalkboard
Will’s decisions are a bit immature because he didn’t have much experience about life and using his brain for significant things. Will’s therapist says, “So if I asked you about art you could give me the skinny on every art book ever written... Michelangelo? ” (47.01) and that’s because Will’s thoughts are just about the books he read. And he doesn’t think and make decisions like an adult. Even his best friend knows that he is a genius and wants him to work for something significant, Will doesn’t want to use his intelligence for important things he just wants to keep having fun with his friends. That shows Holden and Will’s make their decisions poorly and without thinking.
Both of these men have different character traits though. Will has character traits of a sherif or a Marshal. He has a very kind and loving heart devoted to his work. On the other hand, he still has his rough patches.
Will’s girlfriend, Skylar, had a good influence on him. Initially, Will was unwilling to establish a lasting relationship with her but eventually decided to join her in California.
Will sometimes told his mom about things like this. “ Wil said to his mom, everyone I have met he has been very strange and awkward” (Paulsen 94). This quote shows how the setting for Wil is a problem. When Will moved to a new town he was bullied, it was very hard to make friends, and it caused his parents to have many problems with each other. Wil’s parents got into many fights because the house is old.
Will ruins his reputation and his friends see a major change in his personality, appearance, and even disregards towards his
Shocking from a kid like Will because he is a straight as a nail type of guy, loves being around people that bring positive energy and living life
And finding him is the only way I can prove that everything Outside is actually safe.’ ‘Prove to who? Your mom?’ ‘To everyone (245).’” More evidence of Will trying to prove he doesn’t need his mom and he’s brave
Susan Cooper shows that at the beginning of the book, Will didn’t believe anything was special about him. He couldn’t understand why he had powers. He states,” I haven’t any gift, really I haven’t. I mean there’s nothing special about me.” But at the end he realizes that he’s the only one that can do the job.
One reason why Will needs to think before he acts is he wants to be the funniest kid in fourth grade. According to the story Will says,”If I found a four leaf clover I would wish to be so popular.” I put this in this text because it shows Will just wants to be popular he really only cares about being popular. Another piece of evidence is Will thinks if he makes Sean Owens laugh he will become popular. This supports my claim because it explains why Will wants to be popular but he needed to think before he acts.
Below the surface of the ocean they’re actually connected.” Will initially thought that he found comfort in isolation when really, he develops to understand this is not true and he is happiest when in company of others. It was hard for Will to let people in at the beginning because as described in his own words, “People can make you happy but they can also make you unhappy”, and so he preferred to just
When Will’s girlfriend ask about his family he said that he is living with his six brothers although the truth is that Will is an orphan and he lives
He is a thirty-year-old bachelor that has no work experience and has no shame for it. Likewise, when Will is thinking about his frivolous life, he admits that he is not “particularly unhappy about it; there was less clutter this way” (Hornby 8). He believes that there are so many things to do that looking a job is pointless. However, when Suzie asks Will whether he ever thinks about getting a job, he tells her that he does, but he never gets to it. Will confesses that he gets up in the morning “with the intention of sorting out his career problem once and for all; as day wore on, however, his burning desire to seek a place for himself in the outside world somehow got extinguished” (54). This illustrates that Will is accustomed to the way his life has been, and he does not want to actually do anything to change it significantly. Furthermore, Will does not have anyone in his life; his parents are
