Working with others helps to bring the best out of one selves. Just like how I worked with my friend to come up with successful teaching strategies. I will continue to be a volunteer there to help support the students in their everyday academic struggle. I will continue to work as a team member with the Principal as well as the other volunteer to best come up with ways to better help the students. We all start out as a novice, however even the experts had to at one time start out as a novice. I am soon working on becoming an expert by practicing and polishing my teaching skills, however it will take more experiences and more hours volunteering. I heavily relied on the Principal and my friend who was a volunteer there as a mentor to help and guide me. …show more content…
They have provided me with feedback and it was up to me whether to test them out or not. My personal mission was to help others and to give back to the community, which is why I volunteered at a local Mosque of mine, where I believed I can best express my skills and abilities through teaching there. This has helped me enhance my connection with the community. I have connected with the principal as I go to his office and talk with him before heading out to my classes as well as greeting the student parents when they are picking them up. Through this volunteer program I was able to thus expand my experience and learned with the help of experienced mentors. So, with more experience and more hours volunteering I believe I will be able to help many students to become successful in their academic
During my volunteer hours I learned a lot about my own community I that I have not been able to experience. For example I have never been able to participate in so many writing programs and workshops in my local high school, this is because I also did not attend my own local high school because my mother did not allow me to instead, she asked me to attend a charter school. By partnering with LA826, I was able to attend different writing workshops where I would help different high school student write essay, cover letters, and personal statements. Furthermore I believed that most of my activities consisted of just being able to listen to some of the students.
Furthermore, I have also done quite a few acts of service to my town and school even though I realize that it is not necessary for me to do so, I believe that by serving others without a reward is the best way to become a better person and leader. As a matter a fact I am a member of Frisco’s Teens4Green and have volunteered to play “Rufus the Recycling Dog” at local elementary schools, which was a very enjoyable and rewarding experience. In addition, with my early release periods, rather than go home early most days, I choose to go assist some teachers if needed. By assisting them I can learn more about following in one’s footsteps to achieve a certain goal and how to aid another in a time of need. Since then, I knew that I had to serve my school in different ways rather than just teachers. I wanted to demonstrate to my class that I could be a worthy asset, and that I was there for them in wanting to make our senior year extravagant, yet
A specific situation when someone assisted me was when i was trying to put my grandmother old couch in the dumpster today an random guy helped me.
The advisor that I chose to shadow was Joseph Sandoval, an EOP&S Counselor at East Los Angeles College. My reasoning for choosing to shadow Joseph was a result of my curiosity of getting to know how large program like EOP&S function and my previous academic advising experience I have with him. I was fortune to be apart of the advising sessions with Joseph, as the range from one extreme case to a not so extreme case. The shadowing experience provided a rich source how material we discuss in class is applicable in real life situation. Within this paper I plan to discuss briefly what I learn from my interview with Joseph then talk about my observations of the three advising sessions I was apart of.
For the past nine years I have been involved in a program called Jamestown Community Center, an after school enrichment program serving kindergarten through eighth grade students. I started out as a student in the program and became a teacher assistant as a highschool student. What got me into becoming a teacher assistant was seeing other high school teacher assistants be able to be strict with us, but at the same time be our friends. I admired their maturity at such a young age, and noticed how Jamestown was very supportive with each of the teacher assistants. Last year, I was assigned to be the teacher assistant to a first grade class who had just gotten a new teacher. I advised her to give the kids tasks in order to get the students to get

Throughout this experience i learned more about myself than i thought possible. But during the volunteer hours that i performed, i completely broke out of my quiet shell. When i started my journey off at a children's sports and adventure camp, it helped me to become a leader, as well as a facilitator. I had to organize, and instruct activities daily. This helped me to become a problem solver as well as a communicator beause of the fact that in dealing with children, youll always run into some delema that youll have to deal with.
I now volunteer 2 days a week and I am now beginning to feel more included in school. I am now included into the teachers weekly planning and have the responsibility of supporting groups of children. I attended weekly staff briefings, although I have never attended a full staff meeting.
both independence and collaboration have there highs and there lows. But when it comes down to the real world, independece is more important . When it comes down to it you are the one that determines what is best for you. the way i see it, no one is going to be by your side holding your hand teaching you what to do and what not to do threw out your
Hook up, according to dictionary.com is “an instance of people meeting, communicating, or cooperating.” The phrase “hook up” has a wide variety of meanings throughout different generations and different locations/cultures. The definition most people in high school or college understand from Urbandictionary.com is “to make out with someone, or to have sex with someone.” Because the phrase can be used in many different contexts, there is a lot of misunderstanding as to which definition is being referred to. There is no universal definition, so when encountering people of different ages or different cultures it is important to make sure you provide clear context.
In the words of the famed civil rights leader Mahatma Gandhi, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." Those who spend their time making a difference in the lives of people around them tend to know exactly what their calling in life is. Gandhi wrote the truth, and it is not difficult to see in everyday life. Giving back to others is a common theme among scouting organizations, educators, and even books and movies, displaying exactly how much a person can find themselves in the service of others. Two of the most well known organizations for giving back to others is Girl and Boy scouts. Scouts are famous for doing helpful things for other people. The Gold Award and Eagle Award, respectively the highest awards in girl and boy scouting, are centered around
When you are disabled, you want to try to be as independent as possible. Being independent makes it so you can do so more many things by yourself. There are a number of reasons why independence is important I will explain why.
Using the skills I used as part of a student organization helped me to work with the team and become an active member and a person sought out by others for assistance.
I am not sure if my past emails were unclear or not. At home, we are teaching Ben the importance of being responsible. We feel that this is a key skill to learn to succeed not only in school but life itself. The way that we are teaching our child is by setting expectation and tasks that an 11 year can easily complete. His current task includes: making sure that his homework is done and packed in his bag before he goes to sleep. We had him removed from the patrol program because of the issue of him not getting his homework to or from school.
From this experience volunteering I will hopefully be able to continue tutoring or helping students who are struggling in school. I am going to remember this experience when I am a teacher and be able to pay more attention to the students who are struggling and try my hardest to make sure that no one falls too far behind. I will also make sure that all my students get the help that they need in order to succeed. Overall this experience has taught me a lot and enlightened me with new perspectives from where people come from and their home
