There were two sets of Alliances. The Triple Entente was the first alliance, it consisted of France, Great Britain, and Russia. The Triple Alliance was the second alliance, which consisted of Austria- Hungary, Germany and Italy. This a major cause of WWI because when one country had a conflict all of the nations in the alliances had a conflict too and this made the conflict escalate very rapidly.
During World War I, alliances were very important. Like in any other war alliances are needed to survive. The world war I had Britain, France, Russia, Italy and the united states as one ally, they fought against the central powers which include Bulgaria, Germany, Austria Hungary, and Ottoman Empire. The war was started because of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary. In June 1914, a Serbian-nationalist terrorist group called the Black Hand sent groups to assassinate the Archduke.
Britain and France had created, “an alliance which claimed it was defensive in nature” to counter the threat of Germany’s massive army (Document 7). Germany saw itself encircled and formed the Triple Alliance. The alliances formed increased tensions because when one country formed an alliance with another, surrounding nations felt threatened and therefore, formed their own alliances. Europe was divided into two major alliances: the Triple Alliance made up of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy and the Triple Entente established between Britain, France, Russia on the eve of World War I (Document 2). Russia also had close ties with Serbia because of their common Slavic heritage.
One of the three underlying events that lead to World War I becoming such a big war was alliances. “There were at least 100 countries” according to http://www.history.com fighting a war, and countries had to choose their side. Countries used alliances for extra support. Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy were part of Triple Alliance until 1915 when Italy switched sides hurting Austria-Hungar. On the Triple Entente United Kingdom, and France fought together.
Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy (triple Alliance) made up one alliance, but Russia, France, and the UK (triple entente) made up the other. Militarism played an role in this war because every nation wanted to have a great/strong army similar to Great Britain's. Imperialism played an role in this particular war because they was fighting for land and possessions. When looking at the dbq the one of the main reason for the war were alliances.
World War I consisted of two different alliances, the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. The Triple Entente included Great Britain, France and Russia who was allied with Serbia. Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy were part of the Triple Alliance (Document 2). Germany also signed a treaty with the Ottoman Empire and Great Britain grew close with Japan creating other alliances (455). Alliance systems meant that war between two countries meant war between all.
Two Alliances were formed in Europe preceding World War 1. The triple alliance consisting of: Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary (Document 1). The other alliance being the triple entente, which was made of the three powers: Great Britain, Russia, and France (Document 2). Both of these alliances were formed to oppose one another. When there was a conflict preceding the war and Germany rose up, France formed an alliance with Great Britain and Russia in order to have a defense in case of an attack from Germany. In turn Germany took this as a sign that these countries were preparing for a conflict. So, in response they formed an alliance with France and Austria-Hungary.
The first of the three main causes of World War One was the alliances between countries. In the years before the war, several European countries had formed alliances with each other to ensure the protection of their own nations. This created two systems; the Triple Alliance, which consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy, and the Triple Entente, which consisted of France, Russia, and Great Britain. The system made it so that if an allied country
The alliances of the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance brought about the main stage of the global war. The Triple Entente, made up of England, France, and Russia surrounded the Triple Alliance made up of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy geographically (Document 3). This led to the build up of armies on both sides (Document 7). When Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, a neutral country friendly with the allies, over the Serbian nationalist group assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, Germany backed it up which created a domino effect of the alliance countries joining the war (OI).
Before the start of WWI, there were two major alliances in Europe. The Triple Alliance with Austria-Hungary, Germany and Italy, and the Triple Entente with France, Russia and Great Britain. These alliance, along with the extreme feelings of nationalism and militarism, were the main causes of the Great War.
Before the war, Europe was segregated into two groups: the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente (Doc A). Nations of the continent decided to take sides before the war occurred. The Triple Alliance consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. Meanwhile, the Triple Entente was made up of Britain, France, and Russia. These nations were in high suspense, waiting for one to attack.
There were three alliance groups in Europe in 1914, which were The Triple Alliance, The Triple Entente, and the Neutral Nations. The Triple alliance was made up of Germany,Australia, and Italy. The Triple Entente was the United Kingdom, France, Russia, and Africa. The Neutral Nations were Portugal, Spain, Norway, Denmark, Sweden. Romania, Greece, Serbia, Bulgaria, and the Ottoman Empire (DBQ Project Doc 3).
After the assassination of archduke Ferdinand, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, which caused Russia to join the war in aid of Serbia because they had a special ethnic tie which both countries had Slavic populations (Doc A). The illustration is significant because countries would have to back each other up in case other countries went to war, leading to a widespread war. Furthermore, the war between Austria-Hungary and Russia introduced Germany, associated with the Triple Alliance Treaty to Austria-Hungary, into the war . Which meant France and Britain, bound by the triple Entente, were also at war with Germany mainly because Germany cuts through Belgium “ Belgium shall form an independent and perpetually neutral state” (Doc B). The evidence suggests that allied countries had to assist colleagues in terms of conflict no matter how the conflict started. Thus, the alliance system lets World War I be a world war because when one country comes to support another, it causes tension for other countries, forcing them to join the mess and that led to a widespread
To begin with, the pre-war alliance in Europe intensified the long-lasting tensions between countries. In 1879, Germany and Austria-Hungary made an alliance against Russia. In 1881, Austria Hungary allied with Serbia against Russia. The Triple Alliance reveals the alliance between Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. On the other hand, Russia, France, and Britain agreed to become the Triple Entente. (Doc 1) The alliance clearly divided the countries in Europe into two groups, each of which hated the others very much. (Doc 4) The
Since 1914 the United States military has grown and gotten to one of the strongest forces in the world, their technology has developed from Molotov cocktails to the development of the atomic bomb. As nations across the world started to build their troops and modernize, they also began to ally with each other, especially throughout Europe. The Triple Entente consisted of Great Britain, Russia, and France- and the Triple Alliance consisting of Germany, Austria and Italy. Since land was still being fought over in Europe it was bound for a war to start, the spark setting off the beginning of WWI was in the Balkans, this is where the Ottoman Empire disintegrates and new territories wanted to take control. By the time August rolled around Germany had declared war on Russia and France, but as they meet outside the river in Paris the war takes a pause and they just battle as a stalemate. Accompanying the entrance of this war was a huge modernization in weaponry including machine guns, tanks, submarines, aircraft, and submarines. As the countries continued to fight they began to come up with different ways to battle besides weapons and started to use chlorine and mustard gas. This made both sides of battle have to wear gas masks and the number of causalities to rapidly increase.
World War I was caused by several issues between European powers, the first being militarism, or the huge emphasis placed on having large and strong armies and navies. Germany is an example of militarism in WWI because Germany began competing with the British for having the largest navy in the world, as well as developing new weapons like poison gas and submarines, the latter being a great tool in surprise attacks. Militarism was also associated with the Romanticism of war; Europeans wished to fight so that they could become heros. The constant military build ups in several European countries left countries looking for alliances with other strong countries, in the event that war was to break out. Germany, Italy, and Austria created the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente was comprised of Great Britain, France, and
