Year Round School
Summer vacation. The time to hang out with your friends and have fun. Right? Schools in the US are debating on whether or not to have year round school. Yay or nay? Having year round school is a great idea.
One reason we should have year round school is academics. Students in the US are being surpassed academically by countries like China, South Korea, Germany, etc. This proves that we should have year round school. With year round school, kids will be able to catch up to kids in other countries. This proves that we need year round school. We need to improve our academics. Yeah schools will have to pay extra for cooling the building, paying for teachers, etc. But, we
Imagine a school year that never ends. A year without summer, relaxation, and vacations with family. Summer is the time of year that every student cannot wait arrive. But what if the playful time filled with friends, smiles, and laughter did not exist? What if school remained in session year-round? This is happening in 3,181 schools across America and is gradually increasing (edweek.org). The government calls it: Year-Round School. There are both many pros and cons to this controversial issue in today’s education; however, Year-Round School is not a good decision because of the social outcomes, the financial costs, and the academic effects that Year-Round School burdens on the students.
The first reason i'm against year-round school because we wouldn't have our summer break, The reason why it's a bad thing to not have summer break we won't get to enjoy outside activities we won't be able to have much fun as we deserve to because it wouldn't be fair. I thank it's better to have a summer instead of going all round school.
Year-round schooling is a good idea because it cuts down on the set backs of long breaks. The summer break that everyone knows and loves used to have a different purpose then just swimming in the sun. In the 19th century the children going to school also worked on family farm, so they used this summer “vacation” to help get ready for the winter months. (McFadden and McMahon) Now that there is less farming families schools do not have to worry about that. By the end of the year, YRS
Year round schooling may sound scary but read this and I might change your mind. Year round school is pretty much what is sounds like, except it is the same amount of school days as a regular year, and it has more spread out breaks. Year round school would be beneficial because it consist of less review due to “summer slide”, more “family time”, and longer more spread out breaks.
In the article,” The Pros and Cons of Year-Round School” it states that by taking summer away that this could help the students have more time to understand the material. In addition, they say that by taking summer away it helps students not to forget anything that they learn the year prior. This shows that students could excel more in school if summer breaks were gone. Also in the article, “The Pros and Cons of Year-Round School” states that the summer break given to the students is too long. The students have almost nothing to do. Some do go on vacations, but not a lot do. This shows that this would be the prime opportunity to get rid of summer, and do a year round school. Sure people believe that this should happen, but is that really the right way to go
Why is a year-round school a bad idea? Having a summer vacation gives students motivation throughout the school year. It is a bad idea to make our winter break longer than summer break because some students work over the summer, students are not getting the best education they could, and they will not have much time to spend with their family.
Year round schooling should be a thing. The time we leave school and go back to school is crazy now we get about a month off and when we leave we forget everything we have learned the past year. Its preposterous and repetitive, why forget everything we learned and struggle to relearn it when we could just stay in school. Most kids are against it because they don't want to lose their summer vacation but when it comes down to it, you'd get more time off and more breaks if you had year round schooling anyway.
The topic of year around school has been brought up many times throughout my time in school. Though it has been brought up, it has not actually been considered by my fellow students and I. We have all taken surveys regarding it and most of the people I know have been against it. With our school being in a small town in Iowa I do not think having year round schooling would benefit us or the community.
Year round school helps with the complications of childcare issues. Parents won 't have to worry about paying for their child to go to a daycare or a summer camp. Child care can be very expenses and the child might even be upset about going to daycare everyday of the summer. Another child care issue is that if families have older children they could get stuck with watching their younger siblings. Then most of teenagers summer are spent watching their younger siblings when they could be enjoy their summer the way they want.
Have you ever thought about what school would be like without the long awaited summer break that comes with the end of each school year? If so, you might be thinking, what would I do with the extra time? Or how would we ever get a chance for a vacation? Is it going to be too overwhelming for my child? But the biggest factor of all, how would the children take this news? It is a great debate amongst many parents and school districts right now. Should we keep the traditional education methods? Or should society as a whole put this to the past and try a new approach to the way we educate our children: Year-round schooling.
I am against year round schools because I think it causes a lot of stress for students, parents, and teachers. There is no definite results stating that year round schools are beneficial. Year round schools are not beneficial because they spend an unnecessary amount of money and have ridiculous, conflicting, schedules.
Having year round school would be beneficial educationally, but personally as a student I believe it’s not a good idea. Kids love having a big break off school to have the opportunity to go places. I usually travel in the summer and if I only had 3-4 weeks it wouldn’t work out. Last summer I went to Texas and I wouldn’t have been able to do most of the activities I did because they only had them on certain days. Also 5 summers ago my family and I flew out to Germany. We spent two weeks there, but we didn’t go as soon as summer started so if the break wasn’t as long as it is we wouldn’t have had the chance to fly there.
I strongly agree with the idea of having a year round school year, because of the many benefits that parents, students and teachers all receive. Some main reasons why I think this are that summer vacation is much too long, many other countries use these types of school years and schools aren't even using the original purpose of summer vacation anymore.
Many schools do not require for students to go to school year around, although that could change quickly if evidence prove that going to school year around would be a better choice. Many citizens support the idea of going to school year around, but there are just as many citizens that are satisfied with the amount of days we currently attend. Some citizens state that students are being cheated out of their education because attending school year around is not a requirement. The other citizens state that students already spend too much time in the classroom and requiring students to go year around would be a awful idea. There are many questions and concerns that would need to be addressed before the major change could be done.
A common debate among educators and school board members is the idea of year round schooling. While many think this is best for students education, there are factors that could make it so it doesn't affect their education or it makes matters worse. Most students are great full for their summer break. They schedule family vacations, which are very important, and they are able to keep jobs with little to no conflict in the summer. If that time was to be taken away, that would negatively affect students. There are solutions other than making school go all year round.
