On January 13, 1999, a girl named Hae Min Lee disappeared. She was a senior at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore County in Maryland. The Sunjata is named after the originator of the thirteenth-century Mali Empire. The heroic story relates the adventures and the life of Sunjata (otherwise called Sundiata or Son-Jara) from his youth when, as a result of a curse, he could not walk only crawl, to his banishment with his family, and lastly to his turning into the triumphant King of the Mandinka and extending his empire. There are numerous variations to the Sunjata epic, yet the essence of the story continues to stay the same throughout all stories. Jimmy Chin is a professional mountaineer, climber skier, filmmaker, and most of all photographer. He is known for his ability to capture the craziest of moments, in the most dangerous situations, like few other photographers can. He was born October Twelfth, 1973, and he started his professional career in 1999, and by 2002 he had gotten the job as cinematographer for a national-geographic trek across the Chang Tang Plateau in Tibet. By 2006 he was photographing the first American expedition to ski Everest. In the years since he has gone on to create many more movies including Sundance award winning Meru, and photograph for National Geographic, even getting a few of his photos on the cover of the magazine.
Efren Fernandez Jr. a grade 10 student was born in April 13 2000 in Los Baños Laguna Philippines. . He is named after his father Efren Manendeg Fernandez, because his father`s family believes that there should be one child named after the father. After beginning his professional career in 1999, he soon became recognized by National Geographic and was offered to go on a trek across Tibet’s Chang Tang Plateau to photograph the endangered Tibetan antelope. Chin was later a part of the first American team to ski off the summit of Mount Everest in 2006.
