Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome
Zachary Jeffers
The objective for this case study is to give in detail the evaluation process of medial tibial stress syndrome, including treatment plan and progress. Medial tibial stress syndrome is a pathology common in sports that require a lot of running. It occurs when overuse and repetitive stresses are placed on the tibia. Some differential diagnosis are stress fracture, and entrapment of the superficial peroneal nerve. Treatment for this pathology are ulrasound, cold whirlpool and electric stimulation. The uniqueness of this case is how long the athlete had been experiencing pain before bringing it tot the attention

Diagnosis
My diagnosis for the patients injury is medial tibial stress syndrome. I believe this due to the positive special test and the palpation’s. The compression test was positive with pain on the medial distal one third of the tibia. The fulcrum test was the most positive out of the two with the patient pulling back from pain. Also with the palpation's, he had point tenderness over the medial distal one third of the tibia (1985).
Treatment and Clinical Course
Physical therapy modalities, such as ultrasound, whirlpool baths, phonophoresis, augmented soft tissue mobilization, electrical stimulation, and unweighted ambulation, may be used (2009). Ice and rest are the two most important treatments the athlete can receive during the acute phase. Ultrasound will be used to increase the tempeture of the local area. This will increase the speed of healing. Phonophoresis will be used to introduce medications into the area. Mainly anesthetics to numb the trigger point. Whirlpool baths will be used to relive pain and swelling of injured leg. Electrical stimulation is used for to help the healing process by transporting ions beneficial to healing to the affected area
The first witness shown on the stand in the documentary was James Stephens. He was the husband of the victim, Mary Ann Stephens. Mr. Stephens was the crucial witness in this case, because he was the only witness. He claimed in his testimony that Brenton Butler murdered Mary Ann Stephens three feet away from his face. Approximately three hours after the incident, he was able to identify Butler as the culprit from fifty feet away. However, the defense attorney was able to pick highlight multiple problems during the cross-examination. The entire incident took place within a five second window. The defendant was wearing a t-shirt with a prominent logo when he was arrested. Mr. Stephens did not mention the logo to police, and incorrectly stated that the shirt had a collar. It was later learned when a second suspect was arrested for the crime, that Mary Ann Stephens was shot after she spilled her coffee on the shooter. James Stephens never mentioned once mentioned this.
Jeffery Calkin, the defendant, leased a vehicle for our client, Sage Rent-A-Car Inc., and was involved in a car accident with the plaintiff, Jane White. A negligence suit was filed by Ms. White against Mr. Calkin and our client, Sage Rent-A-Car Inc. The suit claims that our client is required to carry insurance and therefore has a duty to assume responsibility for this accident under the provisions of the Mandatory Financial Responsibility Act (MFRA).
Tissue damage recovery strategies minimise the level of tissue damage and boost healing. Minor muscle fibre tears caused by strenuous activity and 'cryotherapy' assists in offsetting this tissue damage.
First, is the education of the patient, if the athlete is willing to report and communicate the problem to the appropriate personnel at the moment and time when it happens, the medical staff will be on the ability of removing the athlete from participation if it is necessary. In addition of educating the athletes, it will be vital to focus on the education of coaches, and parents over the consequences of this injury, the responses of the athlete during the injury, importance of reporting this to the medical personnel (Athletic trainer), and acceptance of the injury. By increasing the awareness of the injury, the medical staff will be more accurate, precise, and the time of recovery will be lower since the athlete will report it in a shorter period of time.
In summary, one can see that Zach’s treatment plan is multifaceted and is intended to stabilize the Zach and his uncle as a family. Zack’s concerns are the result of a complex situation that involves a number factors associated to his past emotional abuse, his specific strengths and needs, and his current environmental situation, like his uncle’s low income and the capacity of the school to support him. It is expected Zach and his uncle will require support to follow the treatment plan due to the limitations in transportation, work schedule, and the impact of low income. That beings said, with this support, it is likely that Zach’s relationship with his uncle will improve and the dynamics of this situation will stabilize.

The Dred Scott decision was a landmark Supreme Court decision on slavery in 1857. Dred Scott was a slave who sued for his freedom after living in Illinois and Wisconsin Territory where slavery was banned. Mr. Scott argued that he should be free since he had lived on free soil. The Supreme Court was to decide three questions: should a black person be considered a citizen and have the ability to sue in court, Did residence in a free state make Mr. Scott free? Did Congress possess the power to prohibit slavery in a territory? The Court was divided on these questions and each Justice issued an opinion. Chief Justice, Roger B. Taney, declared “that only white persons could be citizens”. He insisted that the founding fathers believed that
Justin Ross Harris, 33, a father who allegedly left his son in a hot car to die, has once more appeared in court. Wide range of medications are used to alleviate pain symptoms and carry out procedures depending on the nature of injury
There are several mitigating factors in the case of Jerome and Terry. The factors are all intertwined with constitutional and legal issues. The possibility of a mass casualty situation, especially involving a large number of children colors the entire situation. However, it’s possible to jump to inaccurate conclusions and infringe on the constitutional rights of an individual unjustly based on fear instead of facts. A less serious mitigating circumstance of the case is the assumption about whose books were, in fact, placed in the book return and when they were placed there. While the library staff will know who returned the books when they’re checked back into the system, Jerome is right about the issue of privacy regarding borrowing of materials
A young athlete complained of shin pain for the past 4 weeks. She noted the pain would occur after running. Shin splints do come from any activity related to the medial aspect of the tibia. There are various indications of what this type of injury is causing the pain. Some clinicians call it medial tibial stress syndrome ( MTSS) or tibial stress syndrome. The wide range of nomenclature puts up a debate over the exact diagnosis of this overuse symptom. A physical examination is useful to identify any risk factors contributing to pain. X-Rays are normal in MTSS and are usually taken for a stress fracture. An MRI will show any serious conditions of stress injury.
After undergoing surgery to reconstruct the lateral collateral ankle ligaments, the patient’s lower leg, ankle, and foot will be immobilized in a cast for six weeks. The patient will be touchdown weight bearing around 2-5 days post-surgery (Sherry, 2014). Upon removal of the cast, he or she is ready to begin the therapy program. The program is centered on enhancing the mobility of the talocrural and subtalar joints by strengthening the flexor and extensor muscles of the lower leg and foot (Moore, 2016). Treatment will progress in difficulty through three therapeutic exercises. Each therapeutic exercise will consist of three phases: the preparatory phase, the force phase, and the recovery phase. This slow gradual
A twenty-one year old female, basketball player experienced an ankle sprain by accidentally stepping on another player’s foot. The player was going up to make a shot landed on the opponents foot when she came back down, which made her ankle invert. The head athletic trainer evaluated her then taped her ankle to provide support and keep the swelling to a minimum at that time, so the player could return to play. Immediately after the game, the player’s ankle was iced down to control the swelling and was receiving NSAID’s to help with the pain or discomfort she was feeling. The player was referred to the team physician for x-rays and MRI to help rule out fractures. Treatment was started to help relieving the swelling and pain.
