Dogs have always been considered loyal, best friends that would never leave your side. I got my first one on my 8th birthday. A doberman pinscher with huge paws and only a few months on their back. She was a gorgeous dog with a sleek black, shiny coat and symmetrical brown spots on her body. Two on her chest, two above her eyes, and then brown fur cascading through her legs as if they were streams of water. My mother and I named her “Zlata”, meaning priceless in Russian. My mother and I took Zlata on many adventures, letting her explore the beautiful world. We would go on bike rides with her to the closest park and let her run freely. He legs were so powerful it was like she had been running track for years. She would love to go on long walks in the desert with no lease, although she would never once think of leaving her beloved owners. As much as she loved roaming freely, she …show more content…
She didn’t run around the way she used to and finally we took her to the vet, It was that day that my mother came home from the vet crying, unable to say a word to me. She told me that Zlata had aggressive bone cancer growing on her back right leg and we would have to put her down. We could tell Zlata was in pain and luckily we got her pain meds to make her life as enjoyable as possible. We made life great for her for another three months until her cancer had begun to cause her too much pain so we finally had to make the decision of putting her down after 10 years. It was not easy, she was definitely my best friend but I knew she could be happy and pain free.

Soccer has always been a sport that I’ve loved throughout my childhood. I’ve watched superstars like Sami Aljaber and Yousf Althunyan put on epic performances through the expression of soccer. However, I never truly understood what soccer could do for me until I signed up for my first soccer team. It was in high school, and I was only sixteen years old at the time. I was very excited to have my own team, and to have my statistics being recorded throughout the season. I definitely wanted to test my skills on the soccer field against true competitors that wanted to win just as badly as I did. There were local schools that we had to compete against, and then if we made it far enough, we would get to compete at the state and national levels. When I signed up for my high school soccer team, I truly didn’t know what to expect. I expected to have some fun with my new teammates and friends, but I didn’t realize that it would teach me a valuable life lesson about hard work and discipline. This paper will explain the ups and downs that I’ve had throughout my high school soccer years, and how it helped me become a better person today by instilling positive traits such as hard work, determination, and discipline.
Getting a new pet is never a decision to undertake lightly, but it is especially important to prepare carefully before getting your first dog. You are preparing to share your life with an animal that will need care, attention and stability for up to twenty years - possibly more. Dogs are not a short-term, temporary commitment.
Imagine walking in the door after a long day; your furry loving puppy is sprinting towards you so excited to see you after missing you all day. Your puppy is ready to grab your attention and distract you from the terrible day you’ve had, comforting you in the process. Dogs are great pets because of their comforting nature, playfulness and protective tendencies.
Dogs are the closest creature to man. Sure they are considered as best friend by some. Compared to others, they show an attitude of a friend. They stay beside you no matter what. They also have this sacrificial attitude for their owners. Their being playful and sweet is also remarkable, to the extent that you find yourself longing for them.
When my families first Portuguese Water Dog, superb Sonoma, passed away, it was one of the most downcast days in my life. Sonoma was hard to replace, she was joyful, trustworthy, obedient, and just about the most wonderful dog you could ever meet. Sonoma lived a peaceful but much too short, ten year old life. Right up until the end of her life she was one of the most healthiest dogs around, so when a tumor burst in her pancreas it took our family by utter surprise. By the time we got to the Animal hospital, which had the unmistakable scent of sterile hallways and stale air, it was unfortunately too late to save our precious Sonoma. Which left our whole family with what felt like massive stone rocks in the pits our stomachs. While our family was melancholy about Sonoma's death it was also bittersweet. It was bitter of course, because you never realize what you have until it's gone. The sweet part of Sonoma's passing was that this end of something, was also the beginning to a new puppy, a new puppies life, and a new friend.
In the summer before my senior year, I tore my ACL while playing a small soccer scrimmage. The doctor explained my injury as very common in female soccer. But the heartbreaking reality made me feel much more than the statistic on the dry erase board that Dr. Mayer held. I loved waking up, going to school, and finishing the day with some type of sports practice! After the incident happened, I cried and whimpered for hours as my leg swelled to the size of a balloon. But the pain was much more than skin and muscle deep. With a post-surgery recovery time of nine months, I realized my high school athletic career had come to an abrupt and expeditious end. I had also ran out of college credits at my small school in the same year. Because of this,
For millions of years dogs have remained a constant companion of man. Bred from the aggressive and formidable Gray Wolf tens of thousands of years ago the domestic dog now lives in many homes across the world. Where in the far distant past the domestic dog was bred as a guard animal, a beast of burden, and even a food source the dogs of today are bred for a far more endearing purpose-companionship and love. Finding a pet dog that is more of a joy than a chore is necessary when asking: How much is that puppy in the window?
I’m naturally exceptionally athletic, and, as such, have always been one of the top players on my soccer team. I never felt challenged to be better, or try harder, because I was good enough without having to put in much effort. Then, I was put on JV soccer my freshman year. Though crushing at the time, it made me realize that I needed to push myself harder.
Have you had a dog before? This passion to care for a dog came about when I was younger and my older siblings would always have a new pet and I never did. Then when I finally became older enough I had my first pet. Since that day my heart reaches out to all the dogs out there in the world. This passion, however may seem easy to people, but it takes time before someone can become dedicated to any animal. Many steps need to be made before bringing home a dog starting off with research, materials, communication, welcoming, and from there on steps can last till the end of life.
Even though she is only a dog she teaches me many lessons. She has taught me how to be responsible by needing exercise, food, and water. Some people would see this as a burden, but her and I have made loads of memories on walks, runs, and bike rides. Once, on a nice sunny day, her and I went to my Grammy’s pond and raced around the tons of blueberry bushes, the wind blasting against our faces, making her cheek fur smoothed
Since I was five years old I have been a goalie for my soccer team whether it be the local rec team or the high school varsity team. I have always loved the game but I have also enjoyed playing multiple other sports such as basketball, ski team, softball, and eventing. With juggling all these activities as well as doing well in school I never really got all year round training many other goalies get. So when I was a freshman there was an upperclassmen goalie who was the varsity goalie and it was expected that when I was a junior I would take over where she left off. However, a bunch of changes started to happen that year. We got a new coach which meant we all had to prove to him that we deserved our spots the team. There was also a new freshman
Having a dog as your best friend is wondrous. I remember coming home and being attacked with kisses. After he was gone I couldn’t wrap my mind around it. I didn’t want to believe it. I would come home and I would open the door and wait for him to come and attack me but, there was nothing. He was really gone and I hated everyone for it. I blamed everyone and everything. I had become depressed and I missed him immensely. A week after he was gone nothing changed for me. My friends were worried and they tried to comfort me but nothing could make me happy. One day I stumbled upon a quote and it reminded me so much of him.
According to Cambridge Dictionaries Online, a dog is “ a common animal with four legs, especially kept by people as a pet to hunt or guard things. In addition, it is used to refer to “a person who is unpleasant and not to be trusted.” That is the definition in the dictionary, in real-life situation, there are a number of other feelings and thoughts about dogs. In some situations, dogs can be human beings’ friends, companions and soul mates. As Rogers ( 2010) states in his book, what we count on in life is our dogs’ love and trust as we are people who fully comprehend their feelings and emotion (p. 4). In addition, in some occasions, due to this intimate friendship, Westerners tend to regard dogs as a human being ( Rogers, 2010, p.8). These special four-leg friends have so many great virtues that they usually appear in English proverbs with positive images. For example, people say “ a dog is a man’s best friend” because they believe that dogs are undeniably loyal and devoted to their owners ( Manser, 2002, p.58). In addition, according to Whiting ( 1977), the proverb “ every dog has its day” carries an implication about the assurance that every person has period of wealth, affluence and power in life. Therefore, the image of the dog gives the lowest and unluckiest amongst individuals the hope of being successful sooner or later in life. Another positive aspect of dog proverbs is also illustrated by the saying “ a good dog deserves a bone” (Apperson & Manser, 2007, p.150). It is essential to acknowledge that there is cultural viewpoints on the way people treat dogs. Westerners believe that dogs need to be treated with love and affection hence it is appropriate for them to be rewarded with their favorite gifts. Similar to the proverb “ One good turn deserves another”, this dog proverb indicates that once you do something good, you are eligible for another good thing. The positive image
I remember when I was 11 years old and my dog, Happy, was sick with cancer. Since the moment we rescued Happy he was the sweetest, most energetic pet I had ever seen. He remained this way over the many years that we had him, hence, his name. I remember the day we decided it was time to let go. We took Happy to the veterinarian clinic and were taken into a little room. All four of us, my brother, my parents, and I, huddled around Happy as he was lying on the counter. The veterinarian gave us some time to spend with him alone and say our goodbyes. When she returned she asked if we were ready and gave him an injection that would take him away from this world forever. Happy was euthanized due to his illness. As terribly
