The Olympics were held in Athens, Greece, for that year. Both Kerri and Misty were astonished that over ten thousand fans came to Athens. It was just a coincidence that their first Olympic match as a team was on Kerri’s birthday. While competing and hoping to make it to first, they beat Misty’s other partner, Holly McPeak. Kerri and Misty had to get through one more team to win and that was Brazil. They were the first American female pair to win gold in beach volleyball. This also counted as the first gold Olympic medal the United States had. After winning against Brazil, the two were both over whelmed with excitement that created the horizontal hug. This horizontal hug was simply a great big hug that ended with them falling over into the
She’s just a girl who had won over 14 champion medals. Who is that you are probably wondering. Well “that girl” is Simone Biles. Biles won over 10 gold medals in the sport of gymnastics. Would you let people hold you back from doing what you love or would you overcome the obstacle? Misty Copeland was one of the first professional African American dancers. This is important because if she hadn’t done it then we still might not allow African Americans to be professional dancers. Also with her being brave and strong enough to not give up even when they didn’t like her she is teaching kids that you should not let others decide what you will do and who you will be. Misty Copeland’s obstacle was racism and persecution; it changed her because she gained strength to do what she loved despite the hatred.
The book I chose for my book report was Life in Motion by Misty Copeland. She wrote this memoir to tell the story of all the struggles she had in her large family and in the ballet world. Misty Copeland is an African American ballerina that started dancing at a much later age than most dancers. In the ballet world most companies have had a specific body type for ballerinas. Because Copeland is African American and has a different body type, she has faced discrimination from many companies throughout her life.
Have you ever thought what it would be like to be dancing up on your toes with the American Ballet theatre (ABT)? That’s just what happened, Misty Copeland currently a principal dancer at ABT had a dream to dance there ever since she started to dance and she didn't think that she could do it,but with training, hard work, and passion you can achieve anything. For the month of September I decided to read “Life in Motion” written by Misty Copeland. This book was very inspiring in many ways. I learned so much that I didn’t know, not only about Misty Copeland but also about ballet. I decided to read this book because, Misty Copeland is one of my idols, she is also a big inspiration and I really wanted to learn more about her. Overall this book was amazing. I would recommend it to not only ballet dancers but to also people who love non-fiction because it is full of so many details and a lot of imagery that it makes a person feel like they are in her shoes dancing through her life. I would recommend this book because many people can relate to Misty Copeland in many ways, your mind wanders while reading, and because the plot was very unbelievable and surprising.

The first story made me go back to my childhood. I hardly remember how I came to United State but one thing I do remember is my mom had the same reaction as Alma Rivera. All character made me feel like if I was coming back to the US. In the first couple pages, it caught my attention of how is actually telling what we the people that migrate go through. I enjoyed reading this book I can make some connection with the characters.

In less than 24 hours you will be holding a glistening gold medal in your hand, standing up on the podium while the Star Spangled Banner blares for the whole world to hear and tears will stream down your face. Taking one look back at your coach, Teri McKeever, you realize if it wasn’t for her you would not be here. Graciously, you run up, swing your arms around her body, and embrace her in a powerful hug that says it all. Swimming is a very intense sport and consumes every second of a swimmer’s free time. Many people become leaders and inspire those around them with inspirational words that can determine them to be, or do anything they want. Alex Morgan inspires young and developing soccer players with these encouraging words, “Dream big because dreams do happen.” Clearly, she wants young athletes to be confident and ambitious to do anything they set their minds too, if they are resolute and credulous. Lindsey Vonn says, “Follow your dreams. If you have a goal, and you want to achieve it, then work hard and do everything you can to get there, and one day it will come true.” Obviously, she definitely put in a lot of hard, laborious work to be where she is today and inspires others to show that if you work hard enough for what you want, it will
What if in a matter of seconds all your dreams that you have worked your entire life for shattered before your eyes? What if this happened all while millions of people were watching? Would you still get up and try again? Shawn Johnson has conquered many challenges throughout her gymnastics career all while being watched by millions of people. In the book, “ Winning Balance,” Shawn shares some of her challenges and how she overcame them. The theme of this book is to never give up and keep trying even if it seems as though you have already lost. One quote from the book that really portrayed this theme is, “ Sometimes the real victory comes from simply not giving up. Just remember: God is big enough to handle every challenge, and he is loving enough to calm every fear.” ( pg. 91) The setting of this book takes place in Iowa as well as the 2008 Olympics in Bejing, China.
