In the story “Marble Champ” by Gary Soto the main character Lupe is determined because she works hard, is persistent, and above all she never gives up. The first reason Lupe is determined is because she works hard. For example in the story Lupe works hard by practicing for three hours straight. This shows that Lupe works hard by practicing for long periods of time and setting aside school work to practice and do her best. This shows Lupe works hard and does her best because she really wants to win and be good at some kind of sport or activity. This supports my claim that Lupe is determined. Another example is Lupe beat her brother when they played their own game. This shows that Lupe has been working extremely hard because the story
In my personal life I have displayed the quality of determination. During my young adolescent years I was the victim of bullying. Not only did I receive this unfair treatment from my fellow students, but I also received it from an unexpected source- a teacher. After three years of harassment, things finally improved. I went to high school and learned how to defend myself. I gained my self- confidence back and was able to use my experience to help others. During my sophomore year in high-school, I helped launch two clubs. One club was for a free Tibet and the other to help stop bullying in our school and area. Being determined helped me move on from what happened to me and I was able to turn it into something positive that could help others.
Lupe's first love was the Colonel who was fighting in the Revolution. Everyone in the box canyon believed that the Colonel would steal their gold mine and give it to the Americans. Lupe loved this man with all her heart and couldn't believe that anyone thought he would do such a thing to hurt the people of Mexico. And Dona Guadalupe had to tell her that her first loyalty should be to her family and it didn't revolve around the man you love. The goal of both families was to one day see their children be married and have children of their own.
The story ´´The Marble Champ´´ shows this because when Lupe was in the marbles competition it says everybody was easy to beat because she had practiced so hard. Furthermore, after the first time Lupe practiced it got easier every time.´´Practice, practice, practice, squeeze, squeeze, squeeze. Lupe got better...´´ This evidence shows, that after hard work things can get easier as you go along. I think Lupe realized this after she played at the marbles championship because everybody she played against was easily beat for her. And she realized this after she beat Alfonso, the neighborhood champ, she also realized that things can get easier after she practiced a few days and she got better and better. Therefore, marbles got easier for her every time she did it. She learned that her hard work payed

The most obvious reason why lupe is determined to her goals is that she is smart, because she always practice and studies that’s why she won so many awards. If I ever got a test I would totally study for a test or quiz. That’s not the only evidence why lupe is smart is that she also had a plan to get better at marbles, Lupe also listen to good advice she blocked out bad advice that would make her feel bad for herself and struggle. If I ever got bad advice I tell my mom or dad

In the beginning, Luvenia changes because she wants to go to college. Elijah Lewis, Luvenia’s father, wants her to move back to Curry Island to reunite with the Glory Field. However, Luvenia wants to stay in Chicago so she can attend college. So, it is all up to Luvenia to make the choice to go to college or not. Luvenia acknowledged, “I can raise some money doing hair” (143). This shows Luvenia is willing to work so she can attend college. Luvenia explains, “They say I had to have a guaranteed income” (144). This displays what Luvenia needs in order to go to college.
This is shown in the reasons that she practices constantly, she is determined to win, and that she is determined to be good at a sport. My first reason, that she practices constantly is supported by the author when he states “ she decided to do 20 pushups on her finger tips”Lupe is not athletic at all yet she is doing 20 push ups this is a very difficult thing to do even if you have some athletic talent let alone none. Another piece of evidence that supports this reason is when Lupe squeezed an eraser one hundred times and when her dad rigged lights in the backyard so she could practice after dark. The author wrote that her thumb was so sore the next day that she could not practice and those lights let her practice long into the night giving up valuable sleep to practice. She must be Determined to win sports.
One reason to prove my statement Lupe is very determined is, Lupe has won many awards for academics. A piece of evidence to support that is, Lupe won the school’s spelling bee, and she won the reading contest at her public library 3 summers in a row. This shows that she is serious about winning. Another piece of evidence to support my reason is she was the blue ribbon awardee in the science fair, and the top student at her piano recital. This shows that most of the awards she won are for academics, not athleticism. My last piece of evidence to support my reason is, she is the playground champ in chess, she was a straight-A student, and not counting when she got stung by a wasp she has never missed a day of school. This shows that she is pretty smart, Lupe once got congratulated by the mayor for not missing any days of school. That is some
I was really excited when people told me there was romance, action, and adventure because they’re my favorite genres. But, I was disappointed when I read the first page. It’s 3rd person limited. I thought it would be a little harder to connect with the characters. However, as I kept rereading some lines and questioning the characters, it became easier for me to understand them. For example, Katsa, the main character of Graceling, written by Kristin Cashmore, musters up her courage to defy Randa because she could no longer tolerate him even though she was afraid to imagine what would happen next. Randa wanted others to fear him and to do that, he had Katsa torture people who didn’t listen to his orders. According to Susan Fisk, “empathy for another’s happiness and suffering depends fundamentally on recognizing that the other has a mind-that is, the same capacities for thought, emotion, desire, intention, and self-awareness as ourselves. I empathize with Bitterblue as she is strong facing hardships throughout the book.
However, her uncle, who is a pastor and lives in Georgia with a nice home. Her uncle has a big heart. Thank god for Aunt Phoebe and Uncle Reed, she now has a place to claim as her home. Divine struggles with moving to the country after just being pampered and basically having everything she wants which is what she was used to. Her parents were mostly concerned with getting her out of the spotlight, the spotlight that came so close to destroying her family. Divine Matthews however is not open to the idea.
Characters throughout Alice Walker’s The Color Purple can be evaluated and analyzed using Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, a five-stage model consisting of fundamental needs and growth needs. His theory states that the basic, lower tiered needs have to be met before the growth, higher tiered needs can be met, to ultimately reach the top tier, self-actualization. In The Color Purple, Walker shows the eventual progress to self-actualization through the protagonist, Celie. Celie’s growth is shown through her letters to both God and her sister Nettie. Celie fulfills her basic physiological needs when she gets married to Mr._ because she is finally able to escape her father’s abuse, beatings, and rape. It takes a while, but Celie gains safety and security when Shug Avery tells her, “I won’t leave… until I know Albert won’t even think about beating you” (Walker 76). The relationship that Celie forms with Shug helps Celie satisfy her belonging and intimacy needs. Their love for each other can be shown when Shug states, “cause she [Nettie] the only one you ever love… sides me” (120). As Celie begins her life in Memphis, she meets the respect/self-respect needs when she opens her own business making and selling pants. Celie feels so pleased and shows her character development when she says, “I got love, I got work, I got money, friends, and time” (218). Celie finally reaches self-actualization by the end of the novel. She has a successful business, is able to be independent in her own house, and realizes that she can bring herself happiness and that through every situation she needs to see the bright side. This is evidently shown when Celie is talking to Mr._ and says, “If she [Shug] come, I be happy. If she don’t I be content” (288). Celie’s evolution to reach self-actualization is clearly displayed in The Color Purple as Celie faces and overcomes hardships and learns to be confident in herself.

Cherish character could simply be practiced by embodying characteristics like Jesus and treasuring the gift he embedded in you. For example, living as Christ did and following the blueprint that he laid down for us such as the fruit of the spirit which are: love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self- control. Embodying these characteristics will not be easy, but when you are focused on God and following him it will become easier. As Christian leaders, we should constantly pray and ask God to make you more like him and to change anything about you that is not of him.
One reason Lupe is hardworking Is she practices for a game called marbles. For example, just one way she strengthens her hands for more power is “She squeezed a rubber eraser 100 times.” Another way is “To strengthen her wrists, she decided to do twenty push-ups on her fingertips, five at a time.” Lastly she shot marbles to get her aim accurate so she doesn’t miss.
