Zoos Are Inhumane Zoos might be fun and entertaining, but do we know how much is being taken away from an animal? When animals are captivated and locked in a cage to be put on display, its freedom is taken, as along with many other things. These animals don’t have enough space and they are even treated badly sometimes. Zoos are inhumane and animals should not be kept in captivity. First of all, the animals in zoos aren’t always treated right. Animals are sometimes beaten to be taught. Animals might be hard headed but that is still not a reason to beat them. Animals aren’t always mistreated by zookeepers. They might even be mistreated by visitors. Zoos don’t always care about the money. According to peta kids.com, a lot of times
“Some people talk to animals. Not many listen thought. That’s the problem.” - A.A. Milne. I feel that this means some people command the animals to work, while not understanding what the animal also wants or needs. In the debate, “Are Zoos Bad News?”, written anonymously, the author reports the ethical and unethical reasoning between zoos. This came after the attack on three victims. In my opinion, the existence of zoos should endure seeing that it educates people, zoos can alter the behaviour of people to animals and zoos promote wildlife conservation.
Some people go to zoos to see the wild animals, but that’s not all that they are for. People in groups such as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) may think that zoos cannot provide the needs to wild animals as the wild can. Zoos help animals. They have improved, helping to repopulate species and save animals in the wild.
Zoos may seem fun to visit and exciting to see the animals; but what you don’t see is the suffering and depression that lies in these helpless creatures. There are many arguments whether or not zoos are good or bad, and if they should be removed or kept. Several think that zoos should be abolished or at least very much improved, due to animal cruelty. While, others want zoos to stay because it is beneficial for the animals and people. I strongly believe that zoos aren’t good for both the public and animals for numerous reasons.
There have been a lot of problems with animals in zoos. It has gotten to the point where zoos are hated and looked upon as a places of animal torture. Are zoos really that bad? Turns out, they are. They do not have enough space, they do not allow the animals to communicate with each other, and they sell the animals to cruel circuses.
According to the Captive Animals Protection Society, In 2010, an undercover investigator filmed sick animals left untreated and dead animals to rot on floors at Tweddle Farm Zoo. The problem with this World is that humans can force things upon innocent creatures just for entertainment and money. As stated in an article from Buzzle.com, animals have their own, natural rights and capturing them for any reason is wrong. For example, elephants are known to travel long distances when they are the wild; in fact, they follow migratory routes and travel in herds called 'bond groups'. Therefore, restricting their movements by keeping them in the confines of a zoo is unnatural. Wild animals are, in a way, connected to their natural surroundings and this bond is broken when they are put into artificial settings of a zoo.
Zoos and aquariums neglect proper care and treatment for animals. In the article, Mauling, Escapes and Abuse: six small zoos, 80 sick or dead animals, Over the past decade, more than 80 animals have died, been injured or become ill because of neglect at the zoos, and more than 200 others were kept in inhumane conditions, according to hundreds of pages of federal inspection reports, interviews with keepers and court documents (Jouvenal 1). This clarifies that because six small zoos neglect proper care and treatment for animals, there are now dozens dead, injured, or kept in inhuman conditions.. The article also states, “ That keepers with no experience or little experience were asked to care for sick animals and even manage birth,”(Jovenal 2).
On average about 175 million people visit zoos every year. Out of all of them not many know that the zoo animals are not treated as well as they should be. The animals are put in cages without any of their family for others that they knew. A lot of people say that zoos are good, and that people can learn a lot from the animals in zoos . But, in reality, there are many alternative ways to find out things about animals instead of putting them in cages and not let them do what they want. There should not be any limits on what animals are able to do and zoos are not letting that happen.
Almost every person has visited a zoo during their lifetime. We have been fed lies about zoos breeding programs, conservation of endangered animals, and the environmental conditions the animals are living in. The true purpose of zoos is money shrouded by the thought of educational purposes. The owners have no remorse or pity for the animals they have stolen and the baby animals they’ve bred in captivity. Although zoos promote that animals will live longer in captivity, it’s the value of their life, not the quantity that matters.
Animals in zoos are kept for studies or if they are sick, but most animals were taken away from their families to be put on show for us. Zoos shouldn’t keep the animals because they are having financial problems that cost millions of dollars, and since animals aren’t in their natural habitat, their behaviors change and attacked people. Zoos are places to see animals from different habitats around the world, but are the animals happy
Title: Should animals be used in circuses for entertainment purpose? For years animals have been used in circuses for performances to entertain audiences. While acknowledging the fact that many of the circus animals are not seriously maltreated, this essay holds the view that training animals for performances in circuses should be banned since it is inhumane as it deprives animals of their freedoms and potentially poses threat to both their physical and psychological behaviours. To commence with, circuses are unlikely to provide adequate spacing to circuses animals, especially when they are touring around. Unlike those animals kept in zoos, not only the enclosure sizes of the animals has to be compromised for their portability, the environments
Zoos, and Marine parks make multi billions of dollars a year from the tourist, families, and kids who visit. (Linda Goldston). The animals were meant to live in the wild, and be free. Zoos trap animals in an environment that is one millionth the size of their natural habitat causing them to behave unnaturally. Even under the best circumstances at the best of zoos, captivity cannot be compared to their natural habitat. Animals are prevented from doing the things that are natural and important to them, like running, roaming, flying, climbing, choosing a partner, and being with others of their own kind. Zoos teach people that it is acceptable to interfere with animals and keep them locked up in captivity, where they are bored, cramped, lonely,
Think about it like this, what if someone came to your house and just took your child from you only to go and put them in a cage. You would be devastated right? Right, so just imagine how all of these animals must feel when zoo keepers come and take them out of the wild and away from their families. Animals are always taken out of the wild only to be taken back to the zoos and put in cages. Many people believe that zoos are a good thing, and that zoos actually do help out the endangered species and year some of that may be true but how would the we the people know. Zoos treat certain animals different depending on their cuteness or their age. Animals aren't allowed to learn what they would learn from their parents because zoos are too busy trying to control nature and make them learn certain things a certain way. Many ask where does the animals the zoo take in come from? How do the zookeepers take animals from the wild? How many animals are brought into the zoo each day and year? Is there any specific types of animals that can and cannot be in a zoo? Who take cares of what animals? All of these question are concerning the animals healths and/or their wellbeing. These animals shouldn’t be treated like this, this need to be stopped. Zoos should be discontinued.
Zoos try to send the message that they intend to be there for conversation purposes, or to educate the viewers that come into the zoo, but that isn’t always the case. More zoos than you think have been under investigation or received backlash for the amount (or lack of) care that the animals get, and all because they were under the care of humans. If you were to look up zoos under
The existence of zoos has sparked off controversial debates for a very long time. Critics and animal rights activists argue that it is inhumane to take animals out of the wild where their natural habitats are, and lock them up in a cage for people’s entertainment where animals are suffering due to the lack of care and responsibility from zoos. To set this essay in the right context, some terms and words need to be defined as they can be interpreted differently. Firstly, inhumanity is defined as being “extremely cruel or causing unacceptable suffering”. (“Inhumane” 905) Secondly, a zoo is “an establishment that maintains a collection of wild animals, typically in a park or gardens, for study, conservation, or display to the public.” (Oxford
Animals lose their freedom. Zoos usually take away animals from their habitat, and provide smaller enclosed areas where they cannot practice any activities wild animals should. In article “Should Animals be Kept in Zoos?” the author states, “animals are often bored and, as a result, some become aggressive and can lash out at other animals or zookeepers. In a study done on 40 chimpanzees in six different zoos, all of the chimps exhibited behavior their counterparts in nature did not. Some of these behaviors included rocking back and forth, tearing out their hair, self-mutilation, and the drinking of their urine.” It has been proven that zoos affect the animals behavior, and has led to them becoming bored and depressed. If they had lived in their normal habitat, they wouldn’t have to face behavioral changes. However, others say zoos are necessary for some animals to survive. In the article “Pros and Cons of Zoos” Jil Augustine states, “For example, zoos provide many different benefits to the animals that they may otherwise not receive. Some examples of these benefits are proper nutrition and medical care that they may not receive otherwise.” Jill stresses some wild animals do not get proper care. Although this may be true, others say national wildlife parks provide the same care and allow animals to be satisfied. Their behavior as well as their social lives are also changed due to living in a
