The transendtalist movement and transendendtalism thrived around the characteristics of individuality, spirituality and nature. Starting in the early nineteenth century the movement contributed many important authors and writings to American literature. An impact that had not only influenced few who were educated enough to interpret their readings, but their individual writings had created new movements in support of important issues facing America at the time. The inconsistent treatment of women was one of these issues, though the poor treatment of women may be looked down upon in America overall, but there is still the unfortunate reality that inequality between men and women exists. In “Woman in the Nineteenth Century” By Margaret Fuller the author brings awareness to the issues regarding the inequality of men and woman in America. Fuller acknowledges that not all men are equally privileged or given a fair chance, she rebuts that no woman is ever given a fair chance due to stereotypes and preconceived notions created by men who have a responsibility to help woman achieve equality and independence.
Fuller uses a quote that is degrading to women and empower men in American society to prove how these phrases have given women a demeaning status in society. She uses one phrase in two different forms to send a strong message about the power gender has on the thoughts on of American’s. “Frailty, thy name is woman. The earth waits for her queen” (Fuller 3) In using this quote
