2. The absorption tower is often used for absorbing gases. The gas is introduced at the bottom of the column and the absorbing liquid, often water, passes in at the top and falls down against the countercurrent of gas.
An absorption tower is used to absorb acetone. The inlet gas containing 20 wt% acetone and 80 wt% of air is introduced to the bottom of the column, it comes out from the top of the column with 3 wt% acetone and 97 wt% air. On the bottom of the column, 50 kg of aqueous solution with 10 wt% of acetone is collected.
