ACTIVITY 2
Once again, examiìne a plastic model of a skeletal muscle fiber. Identify the following structures
on the model: axon of motor neuron, synaptic knob, and motor end plate. Notice the
"ruffled" texture to the motor end plate.
Use your computer to view microscopic images of the neuromuscular junction. In the images,
look for dark lines (axons) spreading across the fibers. Once you have found the axons, trace
them as they lead to synaptic knobs. Identify the muscle fibers, axons, and synaptic knobs.
A neuromuscular junction exists wherever a synaptic knob joins a muscle fiber. Draw a picture
below.
