As an Environmental Engineer, a local health project requires you to establish and ascertain the causative organism for the disease Tuberculosis in a given population. Provide a systematic and chronological blueprint of your plan to achieve this purpose. Hint: Use Koch’s postulate.
Koch’s postulates are four criteria designed to establish a causal relationship between a causative microbe and a disease. It is used to identify pathogens that could be isolated with the techniques of the day.
The postulates of Koch are the pathogen must be isolated from the inoculated animal and must be shown to be the original organism, the same pathogen must be present in every case of the disease, the pathogen from the pure culture must cause the disease when it is inoculated into a healthy, susceptible laboratory animal, the pathogen must be isolated from the diseased host and grown in pure culture.
