Register:

  • A CPU register also call processor register is a tiny place, which holds the data in a processor.
  • A register mostly contains an instruction, individual characters, a sequence or a storage address.
  • A register must be large enough to hold information, for example if a computer is of 32 bits the respective register must be minimum of 32 bits and the same criteria goes with 64 bit computer.
  • A register sometimes contains the a part of instruction for another register
  • Sometimes, half register comes in handy for storing smaller data or information.
  •  A typical processor haves index register in it also known as address register.
  • A shift register is the type of register in which a bit is entered from one end and comes out from another end.
  • Flip-flop gates are also used for storing and process data.
