We are assuming the following systems are present in our organization as explained:

Human Resources System (HR System): This system contains details about the employees, their area of expertise, leave status, years of experience, department affiliation, development / design team in which each employee is participating (member of), etc.

Product Development System (PD System): This system contains the details about various products under development / design, the stage of development / design, the team which collaborates on the development, degree of completion of each stage, etc.

Collaboration System (CS): This system is both a record / log of the communication among the different team members of a development / design project as well as enables multi-modal communication among the members (through email, instant messaging, document sharing, meeting / deadline reminders, calendars, meeting scheduler, etc.)

Knowledge Management System (KM System): This system acts as a repository of the various knowledge assets (documents, design artefacts, blueprints, blogs, short research notes, etc.) accessed or generated by the various teams / employees during the course of their work.

The product development system is the heart of the entire system and it interfaces with all the other systems to access and supply information as shown in the diagram.
