Question

Concerning the puppilary reflex, what happens to the diameter of the pupil? Do both pupils change simultaneously?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Pupillary reflex is also known as photopupillary reflex. As the name suggests this reflex is related to light. Actually, this reflex controls the diameter of the pupil diameter according to light intensity entering into eye on retinal cell (retinal ganglion cell) in the black portion of the eye. When the light of higher intensity falls on retina, pupil constricts in response to it and allows to entering less light. In reverse when the light of lower intensity falls on retina pupil dilates so that more light can enters in. If light radiates in one eye only still pupil of both eyes constrict.
