Question

Determine whether the series converges absolutely or conditionally, or diverges.

cos(n /3)
n?
n=1

Expert Solution
Step 1

Given series,

n=1an=n=1cosn3n2

Step 2

Using,

 If n=1an  is convergent then n=1an  is absolutely convergent.

If n=1an is divergent then n=1an conditionally convergent.

Now

n=1an=n=1cosn3n2=n=1cosn3n2                                     using -1cosx1 so, cosx1=n=11n2

n=11n2 is convergent (By the P-series test,   convergent if p>1)

n=1cosn3n2 is absolutely convergent.
