The pancreas is an organ that serves two vital purposes, food digestion and production of hormones which are involved in blood glucose regulation. The pancreatic islets in the pancreas contain endocrine cells and are important in glucose metabolism. There are five types of endocrine cells that secrete hormones directly into the bloodstream: alpha cells, beta cells, delta cells, PP cells (F cells or gamma cells), and epsilon cells.
