Describe about the Hydraulic transportation method.
Hydraulic transportation is a process by which solid materials are moved by a stream of water.
Hydraulic transport is often used by hydromechanized means in the moving soil or rock, in the construction of earth structures (such as dikes or dams), in the removal of ashes and slag from large boiler rooms, in the transport of mineral products, in the removal of waste products in processes of concentration of ore and in the transport of different materials (such as raw materials, wood chips and paper pulp used in the manufacture of alcohol and sugar).
Hydraulic transport systems are classified as pressurized or non-pressurized. For non-pressurized systems the hydraulic mixture is pushed on chutes or inclined troughs and are only partially filled pipelines. In this case the atmospheric pressure is equal to the pressure on the free surface of the hydraulic mixture.
The hydraulic mixture in the pipelines is under an excess pressure in the pressurized systems. Pumps (coal suction pumps, boring pumps etc.) provide the excess pressure. Often the pressure caused by the difference in altitudes between the start and the end of a pipeline is necessary for hydraulic transport — for example, when transporting rock into a mine shaft to fill an excavated area.
