Describe the physiology of how rods/cones work

Expert Solution
Step 1

The eye is the most important sensory organ in the organism. It is mainly responsible for vision. In the eye, the retina is a layer present at the back of the eye where the image formed. Their photoreceptors are present on the retina. These photoreceptors receive light signals and convert into impulses and sending signals to the brain via the optic nerve.

In the retina, special cells are present known as photoreceptors. These cells are a special ability for visual phototransduction. It also contains a protein that absorbs photons and changes in cell membrane potential. Photoreceptor's main property is that it can convert light into signals that can stimulate the biological process. Rods and cones are special photoreceptors that are present in the retina.
