Question

Example of cells that stop deciding.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Cell cycle is a process involving the growth and division of newly formed cell. It has many phases such as Go phase, Interphase, Mitotic phase and Cytokinesis phase.

Step 2

Go phase is that in which cells do not divide at all.

Interphase further consists of G1, S  and G2 phases. It involves growth and synthesis of organelles and molecules in cell.

Mitotic phase which involves cell division

Cytokinesis phase which involves separation of daughter cells.

Step 3

Cell cycle has two check points in between G1 and S phase as well as G2 and M phase. These are the points where cell decides whether to undergo division of continue growth.

This decision is controlled by Cyclin proteins and cyclin dependent kinases (Cdk).

When DNA is damaged, there is a protein p53 which tends to inhibit Cdk's at Gcheckpoint and prevents cell from entering S phase and hence proceed for division.
