Ethics are principles that describe what is expected and what is right and correct and incorrect or wrong ad acceptable in terms of behavior. Ethical principles help to recognize ethical dilemmas and decided to take appropriate action. Classification of ethical principles is deontology and utilitarianism.

Principles of ethics for nursing are-

  • Nonmaleficence means no harm.
  • Fidelity means nurses should be faithful. The nurse should provide high-quality care and true to their professional responsibility and promises.
  • Veracity means the nurse should be completely truthful to the patient. The nurse should not withhold the truth even when it may lead to patient distress.
  • Accountability means accepting responsibility to own's action. The nurse should accept the consequences that occur as the result of their action.
  • Beneficence means doing the right and good thing for the patient.
  • Justice means nurses should be fair while providing care to the patient.
