from the statmet respond why sterotyeps can be misliding and wrong to do. I reread the question and it said a school or work situation, so I have another explicit situation. I used to work at a department store and my manager wanted me to move up and asked me to be involved in interviews; my manager happened to be an older white male. He was warning the new employee about shoplifters. He said, "most of the people that you have to worry about stealing have tattoos and piercings." I automatically told him, "That's not true and you can't say that." I also corrected it to the interviewee and said, "that's a stereotype." He laughed it off and she seemed a bit surprised that he said it. It was an awkward situation, and I was very happy I knew better because if I was truly new to the interviewing process, and learned to act that way, I could have found myself in a situation where I could face charges. I think I was automatically offended because I have tattoos and I don't feel like that makes me a shoplifter.

Question

from the statmet respond why sterotyeps can be misliding and wrong to do.

I reread the question and it said a school or work situation, so I have another explicit situation.

I used to work at a department store and my manager wanted me to move up and asked me to be involved in interviews; my manager happened to be an older white male.

He was warning the new employee about shoplifters.

He said, "most of the people that you have to worry about stealing have tattoos and piercings."

I automatically told him, "That's not true and you can't say that."

I also corrected it to the interviewee and said, "that's a stereotype." He laughed it off and she seemed a bit surprised that he said it.

It was an awkward situation, and I was very happy I knew better because if I was truly new to the interviewing process, and learned to act that way, I could have found myself in a situation where I could face charges.

I think I was automatically offended because I have tattoos and I don't feel like that makes me a shoplifter.
