Question

Give an account of the arterial or venous system of a bird?

Expert Solution
Step 1

The avian circulatory system is efficient and consists of a separate right and left ventricle due to which the pulmonary and systemic circulation are distinct.   The circulatory system includes the Heart, arteries, the blood, and the lymphatic system, The heart is of myogenic origin like other mammals and the pacemaker is called the SA node, present in the right atrium near the vena cava. Oxygenated blood is transferred to the left atrium from the lungs and pumped to the left ventricles from where it is pumped into the aorta for systemic circulation. The deoxygenated blood from the body goes back to the right atrium through veins, vena cava and is pumped into the pulmonary capillary bed via the pulmonary artery
