Give an overview of Evolutionary Psychology

Expert Solution
Step 1

Evolutionary psychology is a branch of psychology that takes on a theoretical approach to study the social and natural sciences by examining them from the perspective of evolution. It seeks to understand and identify the traits of human psychology which can be attributed to evolved adaptations of human behavior, i.e., the traits which have become a part of human psychology due to the natural selection and sexual selection in human evolution. Evolutionary psychologists are of the viewpoint that all human behavior can be traced back to the influence of various physical and psychological predispositions through the help of which human ancestors survived in extreme conditions and reproduced. They also believe that various behaviors and traits which are common for different cultures could have their base as evolutionary adaptations such as the abilities to understand the emotions of others, identifying a kin from a non-kin, identifying and preferring healthier mates for continuation of the generation and the ability of cooperating with others.
