Half Adder The half adder is a circuit that accepts two binary inputs and provides the binary sum as the output. Two outputs are provided; the sum and the carry. A half adder is used for adding the first two digits of binary numbers that are being added together. In other words, they are only used to add 0+0, 0+1, 1+0 or 1+1. If you add larger binary numbers together you would still use a half adder for the first two digits, but beyond that each stage would use a full adder. For example, if you were to add 10+11 (2+3) you would use a half adder to add the two Least Significant Bits together (0+1). The next two digits (1+1) would be added using a full adder.
