Question

How do dicots differ from monocots in terms of leaf structure?

Expert Solution
Step 1

The difference in leaf structure of monocots and dicots are as follows:

  • Monocots produce one cotyledon (embryonic leaf) whereas dicots produce two cotyledons.
  • Monocots have veins arranged in a parallel pattern. On the other hand, dicots have their veins arranged in a reticulate pattern.
  • The dicots have thicker cuticle layer on the upper surface and thinner cuticle on the lower surface of the leaf. Whereas, monocots possess uniform layer of cuticle on both surfaces of the leaf.
