Good morning,

This is for my graduate class on the Psychology Of Aging and Counseling:

How does culture, ethnicity, and/or sexual minority status can impact positive aging and how can a professional psychologist help?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Culture, ethnicity shape our beliefs and social norms towards older people.  Diverse cultures hold different values towards older people. Religious texts such as Bhagavadgeetha, Quran and Bible propagate that older people should be treated with respect and dignity because they are wise, have had more experience and knowledge. This has been long said and people from these cultures have a lot of respect towards the older population and accepts them as an authority figure in their homes. However, in the western civilization ageism has a different notion as it is mostly youth dominated society and the respect that older adults get might be a lot of different than the other cultures that we discussed above.
