How does the reduction in blood flow through the burn
promote infection and make an infection harder to treat
should one develop?
A burn can be defined as any damage caused to the skin as a result of heat, radiation, or chemicals. Based on the severity and the layer of the skin affected, the burns can be classified into first, second, and third-degree burns.
Infection is a major concern in case of burn injury. Since microbes are found in deep hair follicles and glands of the skin, they make a very good infection source in case of a burn injury. Also, burn injury creates open wounds and this attracts many opportunistic pathogens. When a serious injury develops, the microbes can cause septic shock and can affect the entire area.
