Expert Solution
Step 1
Introduction:
Gymnosperms are a group of vascular plants that produce seeds that are not enclosed in the ovary. Gymnosperm is a Greek word where "gymnos" means naked and "sperma" means seed. Example: conifers, cycades, Ginkgo, etc. These plants are the first to develop seeds and represent an example of evolution in plant kingdom. Since they have seeds that sit on the exposed leaf-surface, flowers or fruits are not formed out of these seeds. at present, thousand of gymnosperm species are found which are classified into 4 broad categories: Coniferophyta, Cycadophyta, Ginkgophyta, and Gnetophyta.
