How the transportation of water in plants take place?
Water in plants is necessary for photosynthesis. Water is mainly absorbed from the soil (in a typical plant which consists of the root system under the substratum, and areal shoot system) and lost from the stomata.
Water is transported from the roots to the different parts of the plant by the xylem. The process however is brought about by several factors and forces working together.
Water moves into root hair primarily due to osmotic potential. Once inside the root hairs, water can either move to the xylem via the symplastic pathway, or via the apoplastic pathway.
Symplastic pathway: Water moves through the cells via junctions which connect the different cells, till it reaches the xylem.
Apoplastic pathway: Water travels between the cells along cell walls till it reaches the xylem.
