Equations and Inequations
Equations and inequalities describe the relationship between two mathematical expressions.
Linear Functions
A linear function can just be a constant, or it can be the constant multiplied with the variable like x or y. If the variables are of the form, x2, x1/2 or y2 it is not linear. The exponent over the variables should always be 1.
1. Solve and check the linear equation
-(9x - 7) -7= -8(x + 2)
2. Determine whether the equation is an identity, a conditional, or an inconsistent equation.
4(4x - 15) = 16× - 60
3. Slove the problem. When a number is decreased by 40% of itself, the result is 288. What is the number.
4. Solve the problem. You inherit $10,000 with the stipulation that for the first year the money must be invested in two stocks paying 6% and 11% annual interest, respectively. How much should be invested at each rate if the total interest earned for the year is to be $700?
