Name the largest WBCs found in the blood.

Expert Solution
Step 1

Blood is the most important component of life. It acts as the transport factor in the body. It transports nutrients and oxygen to various tissue and cells. It also helps to bring waste material from organs, tissue, and cells for purification to lungs and kidneys. Blood is red in the human body due to the presence of hemoglobin.

Step 2

Blood consists of special connective tissues like fluid matrix, plasma, and formed element cells. Different types of blood cells are red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, platelets are present.

Types of blood cells are present in the blood are:

Red blood cells

Red blood cells are known as erythrocytes. Their structure is like biconcave cells. It contains an iron-rich protein known as hemoglobin. Due to hemoglobin present in RBC its color is red. It is produced in the bone marrow. Red blood cell's main function is to transport oxygen to various organs and tissues of the body.

White blood cells

White blood cells are known as leucocytes. White blood cells have no color. It is colorless. It does not contain hemoglobin. Its main function is to fight against infection and disease. It contributes to the immune system. White blood cells further classified into two parts granulocytes and agranulocytes.

Granulocytes

This name because of granules present in their cytoplasm. It is further divided into three subparts i.e. eosinophils, neutrophil, and basophil.

Eosinophil

They are present in the immune system. These cells are responsible for the fight against infections, allergy, and asthma. It is produced in the bone marrow. It is mainly found in the digestive tract.

Neutrophils

They are mostly present in the bloodstream. They are also present in pus cells. Its diameter is 12 micrometers. It helps to destroy bacteria with the help of lysosomes. It acts as a strong oxidant. They are only stained using neutral dyes. It produces every day in bone marrow because its life span is only eight hours.

Basophils

Only 25% of basophils present in white blood cells. They have large cytoplasmic granules. It reacts when a pathogen enters the body or any allergic reaction occurs in the body by releasing histamine and dilate the blood vessels.
